No known links to serial killers of the time such as the notorious Henry Lee Lucas. Lucas, who stalked American highways for several years, confessed to hundreds of murders but was in jail when Jane Doe was murdered.

No tie to Benjamin Boyle, the truck driver executed in 1997 for the October 1985 strangulation death of Gail Lenore Smith, 20, and linked to cases in California and Colorado. Smith was found near the Canadian River bridge.

The rugged, scrubby hills north of Amarillo had earned an infamous reputation by 1983. Between 1974 and the discovery of Jane Doe, the area yielded six murder victims, with each case ending in arrests and convictions.

Laura_Miller.jpg

Laura Lynn Miller - Age 16, Caucasian, brunette. Third victim found in the "Killing Fields." A Clear Creek High School sophomore. She was missing shortly after the Miller's moved to League City, on September 1, 1984. Their phone wasn't working yet, so she had been talking to her boyfriend on a payphone. At the very same convenience store where Fye was last seen. She insisted that her mother let her finish her call and she was old enough to walk home. She never arrived and the police implied to her father that she was a run away. Tim Miller had found out about Heidi Fye's murder and wanted the police check the same area for his daughter. Miller was victimized twice, by the killer and by the system. The same day as Jane Doe's body, the police while looking for clues stumbled upon Miller's remains on February 2, 1986 she was shot in the head. She was only a mere twenty yards from Jane Doe.

Rebecca Beard – 30, Missing since March 2, 1986, when she failed to return home from a nightclub in Galveston. Authorities searched the field for days recently after a man pleaded guilty to Rebecca Beard's murder and said he had buried her body there. The search was suspended without finding Beard's remains. Police were led to the rice field in southern Brazoria County by Paul Gayland Taylor after he pleaded guilty to murdering Beard. His admission was part of a plea bargain in which he agreed to take investigators to the site where he said he had dug a shallow grave.

Taylor, 38, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder. He also was sentenced to 25 years for solicitation of capital murder for trying to hire someone to kill a witness who was to testify in the murder case. RESOLVED.

Eilenne Schatelowitz, 22, whose body was found March 26, 1986 in a League City drainage ditch. Schatelowitz, 22, of Santa Fe, a mother of three who was separated from her husband, was last seen the night of March 25 after leaving a Dickinson convenience store where she worked.

Larry Wayne Herrington, 21, and Jonathan Bradford Bristow, 20, both of Dickinson, were jailed in April 1986 when they were stopped by police in Shawnee, Okla., for driving a van which belonged to Schatelowitz. The body of the victim was found March 26 in a ditch off FM 1266 near Houston Gulf Airport in east League City. She last had been seen the night of March 25 after leaving a Dickinson convenience store where she worked. The suspects are accused of strangling Schatelowitz, dumping her body in the ditch and taking her van after she agreed to give them a ride.

Police Detective Rex Fancher said there appears to be no connection between the Schatelowitz case and the deaths of two other young women whose bodies were found in the League City Killing Fields.

**Similar to other cases** RESOLVED

Shelley Kathleen Sikes - Age 19, Caucasian, brunette, brown eyes. The University of Texas student who was home for the summer, was last seen just before midnight May 24, 1986. She left her summer job at Gaido's restaurant for her Texas City home but never made it.

Her car was found on I-45's northbound feeder road, just north of the Causeway. In the deep mud just north of the Santa Fe overpass, the car was blood spattered and the driver's window smashed. Her body was never recovered, but Bayview resident John Robert King and El Lago resident Gerald Peter Zwarst later were convicted of aggravated kidnapping, the most severe charge prosecutors could pursue without a body, in the case.

The bodies and the Unsolved cases just keep piling on. Those listed are only a partial listing. There are more to come as we go through more records and make verifications.

There was more than one serial killer involved and someone got away with murder! Actually, several someones got away with murder.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome here!

30 Years of murders and the locals weren't aware of the danger. Can you imagine! How many of these young women and girls would be alive today if someone had let this be known!

Why was it such a secret? Who had something to hide?
