CA CA - Orange Co., WhtMale Skeletal 190UMCA, 15-19, in Trabuco Canyon, Dec'96

Recently, I noticed Shawn Hale who went missing at 19 from Apple Valley in San Bernardino County, CA on November 04, 1994. He is a lot taller than the estimates for the UID, but NamUs isn't even listing his estimated height, so maybe it is questionable? His other characteristics seem within range.

Also, another rule out has been added for this UID on NamUs -- Benjamin Jimenez-Carlson. I'm not really sure who that is.

Ambercat,

Recently a family member of Shawn's contacted me via WS. I sent your info and post regarding Shawn and the Trabucho Canyon UID to that person and they are going to take a look.

I thought he could be someone who traveled from Europe to Mexico, then crossed the border illegally. There is a small population of Germans and other West Europeans who immigrated to Latin America, so while it is not likely he is from Latin America, it isn't completely impossible.

Quite a number of illegal Russian and other eastern European immigrants come in through Mexico as well.

This looks like a guy named Jeffery Richard Chisolm who went missing in West Covina in 1994.

The John Doe found in Trabuco resembles him. Since Jeffery Chisolm went missing in 1994 and this John Doe's remains were found 2 years later, in 1996, it would make sense that they'd be partially skeltonized as the report indicates. The height and hair color are relatively close as well. COULD BE A MATCH GUYS:please:

Jeff seemed to have kind of messed up crooked teeth in my opinion. Like in the first pic if you look closely they don't seem great. It's also possible that his teeth had fallen out or his missing teeth were in the back of his mouth and invisible in pictures. Here's a close up of his face and his smile:http://www.missingin.org/reg932/jeffery_richard_chisholm.htm

The Trabuco John Doe had red/sandy brown hair and Jeff had dark blonde; I always think of sandy brown as another word for dark blonde. His hair could probably come off a darkish red color in the sunlight with his natural dark blonde/light brown highlights.

I think Nicholas Barclay died at the hands of someone he knew (possibly a family member), back in TX. I doubt it's him. (To anyone interested in his case, watch "The Imposter", great documentary!)

The namUs report notes among his a processions was a " knotted cloth ligature" . Very suggestive of a suicide. The location of the body (1.7 miles east of Trabuco Creek Rd) would be too far to carry a dead body but so close to civilization that it would be an unlikely "lost in the wilderness" situation.

This is almost certainly a suicide.

Trabuco Canyon is the "go to" wilderness area of Southern Orange County but it is not well known or particularly accessible for someone further away in the greater LA Metro area. Southern Orange County is generally quite affluent and you would expect better dental care and a missing teenager to be reported.

The area where he was found is a little known hiking corridor between Riverside and Orange County. Near the end of Trabuco Creek Road, you take Holy Jim Hiking Trail which takes you right into Riverside County. From the end of that trail, you go up and over the divide and can descend into the South Corona area. The trails are well marked and the hike can be done easily within a day. I believe that this person's intentions were either to enter South Orange County or enter Riverside County via this alternative route; the conventional route would take much longer as you would basically shadow the interstates. I do not think that this young man would travel to that specific area to live in a known transient camp as the surrounding area was not urbanized; there were plenty of places to set up camp closer to Interstate 5 where food resources etc. are more available.
Using this logic, I submitted James Mulley (NAMUS#17470) from Chino, CA as a potential match. Profile has hardly information-- no dental, DNA, or helpful descriptors. MP matches height range, hair colour and approximate weight. UID has consistent dental decay from absence of personal care from 1.5-3 years. MP disappeared July 13, 1993; UID died between 1/95 and 6/96. One determining factor is whether or not James Mulley had occlusal restorations on teeth #19, 18, or 30. I will be following up with the detective to see if I can get any more descriptive information.

Sad there is no picture of James Mulley anywhere....Considering the time he went missing, when photocamera's where all over the place, I find that strange...a missing 16 year old boy and no picture available....

A long shot, considering the circumstances this poor guy probably didn't make it that far, but there is some resemblance with his mouth...very small...comparing to the rest of his face. Chin is off in his pictures, I think. Distance between missing county an found county is maybe questionable..... Stats are quit ok... nothing about MP's dentals...partial skeleton remains..MP missing fingers and toes...

Current list of exclusions:

The following people have been ruled out as being this decedent:
First Name Last Name Year of Birth State LKA

Wesley Aaron 1979 Arizona
David Borer 1981 Alaska
Angelo Gatti 1952 California
Mark Himebaugh 1980 New Jersey
Benjamin Jimenez-Carlson Unknown California

Daniel Esses is an intriguing possibility; the most common way to lose fingers and toes is from frostbite and exposure, which would imply somebody used to being out of doors, whether as an itinerant person or an outdoorsman. Partial skeletal parts recovered might mean they don't know whether the victim had all his appendages.

this confused me.

merced manor is a neighborhood in san Francisco, which is 2 hours west of Merced, CA. however, I looked further and there is a rehab/convalescent center in merced called merced manor.

there is also a mental health center in merced called marie green center, he would have been more likely to be there if he was under observation for mental health issues.

strange all around.
