I have family that lives a couple of counties away from where she lived. I remember looking at the mom's FB through this and being so sad that this was someone she considered a friend, not to mention a man she married is accused of joining in. She even had Chris at that time ahead of her husband on her friends list. I just can't imagine how she feels but I imagine if it were me I'd be full of guilt for not seeing who they were and letting the devil in the door, although we can't always see who is evil as they hide it well sometimes. It's a decision that she will have to live a lifetime with.

I am confused by this as it says he killed her in Stella, MO but I thought he did it in Wheaton, MO?

Collings, 37, is one of two men accused of raping and killing 9-year-old Rowan Ford in Stella, Missouri in November 2007. She was missing for about a week as the community searched, hoping for the best.

That is confusing, on the last link it says, Rowan Ford OF Stella, mo. Maybe in the other article they should have used the word 'of' and not 'in'. jmo

Now that makes sense! There has been a lot of typos from those reporting, but I'm thankful they're there.
 
Thank you, menmo, for keeping us up-to-date on the trial. I sincerely appreciate it and it's been a long time coming.
 
David Spears was called to the stand this morning (they are having Saturday court) by the defense outside the presence of the jury and pleaded the 5th to all questions as assumed by many he would. I posted his photo below.

eta-Collings former wife is commenting at the link above, answering questions from others. She said they were married for 10 yrs. and divorced 1 month prior to Rowan's murder but seperated for a time before the divorce was final. She said her and her children suffered a very volatile and abusive relationship with Collings. She said she was going to testify for the prosecution but was told her testimony would not be needed. She had met Rowan and spent Christmas and summer vacations with her and her family.

I've been really busy the last few days and couldn't get on. Thanks for the quick updates so I can stay informed, also! Busy day tomorrow but hopefully I'll be able to catch up later in the day. Thanks again for making it so easy to check what is going on. I had no idea they would do the Saturday court.

In Phelps County today, jurors here on a Saturday to continue to hear the states case against Chris Collings. David Spears, the other man who is charged with the rape and murder of Rowan Ford, was in the courtroom. But unlike November 2007, he did not have much to say.

Reading about the third person now, made me remember reading about this when it happened. Why aren't they reporting his name?

Does anyone remember the name of the deputy who was lowered into Fox Cave by Michael Hall? TIA. Oh, and does anyone remember which officer said he was playing a hunch and thought her body would be there? IIRC one of them knew Collings pretty well.
 
Oh Dear God, after reading today's tesimony it verifies 2 of the rumors I read may be true-part of Rowan's thumbnail was torn off and she had a 3/4" laceration to her genital area that occured before death.

It was not clarified how the injuries occured. I am going to assume her thumbnail was torn off during a struggle. No word yet if Collings DNA was found under her fingernails. I am going to assume the genital injury was a tear and not a cut as rumored. Still horrific but eases my mind a bit thinking she wasn't tortured as rape is torture enough.

Also, no DNA of Collings was found on her on or in her genital area. Sperm and semen were present but not enough to get a profile to identify who it belonged to. Insufficent amount of sperm cells in the sample. Sperm cells contain DNA. Performing a vasectomy removes sperm cells. (I am guessing Collings had a vasectomy) If there are no sperm cells there is no DNA.
Hair belonging to Rowan was found in the bed of Collings truck. It was id'd by DNA analysis.

JMO, If he wouldn't of confessed he may have got away with it because no DNA was present. Wow, that is a scary thought. And I am amazed in this day and age that a rape can be committed and the possibility exists the perp won't leave enough of his DNA on the victim (when not using a condom) to id him. I thought for sure Collings DNA would be found on Rowan's gential area.

The only one I remember stating they knew Collings pretty well was the coroner for that county. Name escapes me as well as LE names.

Thank you for the name of the third person. I thought early on I had read it and when I went back (early on) I couldn't find it again.

Newton County Coroner Mark Bridges previously told the Daily News that David Spears, Ford’s stepfather, led him to the sinkhole. He said he noted items worthy of further investigation in the cavern, and alerted authorities.

The following morning, Nov. 9, then Deputies Hall and Boles went to the sinkhole. Boles lowered his head into the pit, then alerted the chief deputy that the girl’s body had possibly been found.

One of them was arrested for child molestation or something along those lines not long after Rowan was found. Do you recall who that was?
 
I just went on casenet to look him up and there is nothing there. To my knowledge they don't take it off of there if you are found not guilty so why is his case removed?
