How do you think Alcala came up with the name John Berger/Burger for his alias? Did he take over someone's identity? Steal their SS# somehow? It was said that he met Ellen Jane Hover (most likely one of his victims) at the unemployment building. Could he have gained access to records there?

Could have although it appears that he was using this alias around the time the Day of the Jackal came out ... that's my first thought.

I know this is most likely old news, but, I wanted to post this on this thread so that we know how he came about using the name John Berger/Burger.

Rodney James Alcala (born Rodrigo Jacques Alcala Buquor; August 23, 1943)

I believe one of his relatives literally had the name "John Buquor" too.
