Pittsburg — Joel Moore, 27, Pittsburg, formerly of Harrisburg, celebrates his birthday Sunday, about a month since his last contact with his family.

Moore last contacted his brother, Nathan, by text message indicating he was off to visit some old friends. Now Williamson County Sheriff's Department is investigating Moore as a missing person. The family has placed flyers in businesses throughout Southern Illinois asking anyone who has spotted Moore to contact them.

Nathan said Moore had friends in Harrisburg and said a former co-worker of Moore's from the old Mad Pricer said she saw him driving in the area of Southeastern Illinois College. That is the last lead the family has received.

"The detective in charge said he is waiting on phone records to get back from Verizon. They have until April 28 to comply," Nathan said.

PITTSBURG, IL (KFVS) - It's been a little more than a month since Joel Moore disappeared and family and friends are holding onto the hope that he'll be found soon.

"A lot of sleepless nights, just unrest," said Nathan Moore, Joel's brother.

The last time anyone from the family saw or heard from him was on March 27th.

PITTSBURG — The family of Joel A. Moore, a 27-year-old Pittsburg man reported missing in early April, wants to seek help from private inves-tigators. They have scheduled a June 13 spaghetti dinner and silent auction benefit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at the Harris-Pruett Building, 107 E. Church St. in Harrisburg. The price per plate is $6.50 and all proceeds will go toward hiring a private investigator.

WSIL -- The family of a missing Pittsburg man say they are still searching for their son. New leads in his disappearance have them hopeful he is safe.

<snipped>
The family has received two tips that he may be in Jefferson County. A couple people have said they saw him with the Rainbow Family of Living Light, a group that lives in forested areas across the country. Myona Moore and her son, Nathan, say they are holding out hope that Joel is still alive. Joel's mother says she never thought he meant the transient group, the Rainbow Family of Living Light.

Joel's family recently hired a private investigator to search for him. In the past week or two, the family's private investigator received two calls, saying they saw Joel with the Rainbow Family near a lake in Jefferson County.

"It doesn't (sound like they'd be friends of Joel) to us, but since we don't have any evidence or anything else, it's always one of those things that it's a possibility," Ms. Moore said.

Never heard of the group, and while Joel is not a teen... I went and read some of the stuff. What I found appalling is the link to teenage runaways. While they are trying to "protect" themselves, the bottom line of what I interpreted is that they are enabling runaways to feel free to join and this is not peace-love-harmony. It's custodial interference and wrong!

Two vehicles and a body have been recovered from One Horse Gap Lake in Illinois. The body found was Kyle Brown, who went missing in 12/2014.

I am not sure what model/make the second vehicle was, but Joel Moore is mentioned in articles about the find.

Body, two vehicles pulled out of Pope County lake Friday night (The Southern Illinoisan, 4/18/2015)
Dennis Watters with the search team is volunteering on behalf of the Brown family, as well as loved ones of Joel Moore, who was last seen visiting a friend in Harrisburg on March 27, 2010. He was 28 at the time he disappeared. Watters said the search for Moore continues this weekend. To donate or provide information, visit Teamwatterssonar.com

Kyle Brown sounds like he was suffering from mental illness. So he could have gone into the lake in a suicidal or delusional state. I'm saying that because I've looked at maps of the lake area. It looks like it would be very hard for someone "accidentally" drive into the lake. It is in the middle of a park (or wildlife refuge or something) out in the middle of nowhere with only one place with road access. There don't appear to be any roads close by.

Southern Illinois Cold Cases: Joel Moore

The search continues for a missing Williamson County man. That's despite the fact that the the trail of clues leading to Joel Moore turned cold years ago.

But you may know something that could put new life in the case.

"You know as a kid, you take a lot of the times for granted that you spend with your family," said Nathan Moore, who last saw his brother Joel in March of 2010.

"What concerns me most about this case? That we haven't found either him or his vehicle, which makes me believe they're both still together," said Thomas.

Thomas believes he may lie at the bottom of a pond, lake or river in the area, though search teams have yet to turn up any trace of him.

"Do I think he's still alive? With no activity on the bank account, probably not," he said.
