BAYTOWN, Texas – Investigators are sorting out details after the bodies of two teen girls were found in a burned out home Sunday morning. It happened around 7 a.m. in the 700 block of Lloyd Street in Baytown.
It is unknown if the girls were killed before the fire or perished in the fire. Investigators said the fire appears to have been intentionally set.

not much on this case yet.

What a horrible, horrible tragedy. So senseless. Such young lives. I hope they catch the person(s) who did this quickly. This community is in shock and is going to be very afraid until an arrest is made.

“There is evidence that this fire was intentionally set,” said Baytown Police Lieutenant Eric Freed.

Now, police are investigating the fire as a double murder.

“I can tell you it wasn’t an accident. There was apparently some type of accelerant spread in the house,” said Lt. Freed.
........................
While investigators try to piece together evidence, they may have caught a break. Police found something in front of a house in the 600 block of Lloyd Lane, not very far from the fire. Baytown police wouldn’t say what it was. But a neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, tells FOX 26 he found a bloody baseball bat and gasoline can there. Police have not confirmed that information.

Chelsie Lang and Ashley Johnson were cousins. Both were high school juniors in Baytown -- one at Lee High School, and the other at Sterling High School. They were described as good students and popular. Johnson was spending the night at Lang's home.
..............
Baytown police say a gasoline container and a baseball bat were found in a yard on the same block. Police say those items could possibly contain DNA evidence linked to the murders.

"There was some type of struggle in a separate room from where the bodies are," Lt. Eric Freed said. "That makes us think that foul play was involved."

Lang was a junior at Lee High School. She was active in the theater department and ran track.

"She was a real good person, fun to be with," classmate Chad Promise said. "She was funny, always had you laughing."

Johnson was a junior at Sterling High School. Officials said she dreamed of becoming a hair stylist.
Investigators said Lang lived at the home with her mother and brother. Officials said Johnson was spending the night and Lang's mother was with the girls, but left to run an errand early Sunday morning.

"My daughter -- she was getting ready to go to church. She had went to the store," said Judy Lewis, the victims' grandmother. "The girls were asleep. I assume they were in their asleep."

Suspect confesses in Baytown double murder
Right now, a suspect is in custody for the deaths of two teenage girls in Baytown. The burned bodies of 17 year old Chelsea Lang and 16 year old Ashley Johnson were discovered in a Baytown home Sunday morning. Coming up on 11 News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m. we'll tell you the name of man arrested. His connection with the victims and the confession he gave police

this is breaking news....there is not a link to a story it was just flashed on the front web page at http://www.khou.com sorry :furious:

Joseph Francois Jean, 37, had been connected romantically with the mother of 17-year-old Chelsey Lang, one of the girls whose bodies were found Sunday morning, said Lt. Eric Freed. Ashley Johnson, 16, also was killed.

Jean confessed to the killings late Wednesday evening, Baytown police said early this morning. He is in the Harris County Jail without bail.

“He and Victoria Wiley had been separated, but he was still in communication with Chelsey and her cousin,” Freed said on Wednesday.

Jean felt a lot pent-up hostility and anger at the mother, which he apparently took out on the two teens, bludgeoning them in the head, then setting the house on fire to conceal his crime, authorities said.

what a loser

The evil in humans grows more despicable & horrific every day.....we are hearing too many stories about monsters burning children - alive!....how could they do that to children who've done nothing to them???!!!!

Sitting on death row waiting on the needle for years is too good for this animal. :furious:

<snip>

Jean is being held in the Harris County Jail without bond. He has a criminal history dating back to 1990.

Investigators said they found a baseball bat and a gas canister near the home.

"The bat has shown to be owned by Joseph Jean," Freed said. "We have positively linked that to him."

Officials said Jean has been charged with one count of capital murder because if prosecutors lose the case, they would be able to file a second charge and try again for a confession.
