GENEVA, N.Y. -- Police in the City of Geneva continue their investigation into the discovery of what is believed to be a human foot. Authorities said the remains were discovered by a couple walking along the shore of Seneca Lake with their young child.

"They were looking for driftwood and what they found was a sneaker," said Lt. Jeff Trickler, Geneva Police Department. "Looking inside, the individual that found it determined what he thought looked like a human foot, at which time, he removed the item from the sneaker and saw that it was possibly a human foot and notified us."

Trickler said it does appear to be a human foot and the remains were sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for DNA testing. Police said once the testing is complete, they will begin looking at unsolved drownings for a possible match.

Okay, this may sound morbid, but... I went to school for Mortuary Science and they told us that often times the feet will be the some of the 1st parts to "go" if a body is left in water for a long period of time...

The body is weakest at a joint and often times sneakers are very boyant and will float off, taking the foot with it...

Weren't there a bunch of randon feet that washed up on shore in BC, Canada???

Jenni979, thanks for the info. All the myriad feet washing up on BC/Canada and I think maybe even Washington state is wierd to me -- and I don't think the authorities really know their origins.
