22News asked residents of South Hadley if they’d recommend this town and school system to potential buyers. One woman who said she was bullied when she attended South Hadley High School said "I probably wouldn't. Bullying is a serious issue." But Ed Marcous of South Hadley said "Bullying goes on everywhere. It’s a shame it went to this extent. But, this is a great town. I wouldn’t deter anybody from moving to South Hadley."

School Committee Chairman Edward J. Boisselle on Tuesday accused local advertising man and school critic Darby J. O’Brien of “impersonating” a spokesman for the Prince family in various media outlets, including during his appearance Thursday on the nationally broadcast television program “The Dr. Phil Show.”

“I cannot think of anything more hurtful for the community, the schools and mostly the Prince family. That is a very serious allegation,” Boisselle said.

Cosby also told King that he could not believe that Prince's teachers in South Hadley High School, Massachusetts had failed to address what was happening to her.

'I don't know if shocked is the word as - as much as I just did not believe,' said Cosby. 'I don't believe that you can take a job as a teacher, as a superintendent, as a principal and - and not recognize, when you're being told by parents,' he added.

King reminded Cosby that all of Prince's teacher's and administrators said they had no idea the bullying was going on. Cosby dismissed this idea and highlighted his own successful experience in dealing with school bullies in the past.

'You see, for instance, when our daughter Erica had a problem, she reported it to us. Mrs. Cosby then went to the school. The school immediately - and Erica is maybe seven, eight years old - immediately brought the parents in of the child who was doing the bullying. And it - it worked.'

The contrast between the Cosby families' experience and Prince's could not have been more stark.

'I don't know if shocked is the word as - as much as I just did not believe,' said Cosby. 'I don't believe that you can take a job as a teacher, as a superintendent, as a principal and - and not recognize, when you're being told by parents,' he added.~ end snip

Three arraigned in Phoebe Prince bullying case

snip~An arraignment for three of the nine students involved in the Phoebe Prince bullying case took place at Hampshire Superior Court on Tuesday, April 6. Prince committed suicide on January 14 after allegedly enduring brutal harassment by the three teenagers in question, as well as at least six others.

The defendants did not attend their arraignment, allowing their lawyers to enter ‘not guilty’ pleas on their behalf. Their absence in court invoked anger in many of those in attendance. Eric Lacust, a student from Granby, told The Boston Globe that he was upset that they did not attend the arraignment.

“They should be denied bail,” Lacust said. “I think it’s wrong that no one showed up. It shows you can get away with murder, and it’s all right.”~ end

Education Department Touts New Civil Rights Enforcement Efforts, But Will Not Investigate Suicide of Bullied Student

But when asked by CNSNews.com following the speech if her office was investigating the Jan. 14 death of Phoebe Prince, an Irish immigrant who hanged herself after being bullied for weeks by nine teens, Ali said no – even though some of the suspects are charged with violating Massachusetts civil rights statutes.

“Yes, it appears that there were some civil rights issues -- national origin and discrimination under Title IV,” Ali said.

“It’s hard to know, but we have offered to provide technical assistance to the school,” Ali added. “We’re going to let the criminal case, the state-level criminal cases play out, but we’ll be watching closely and do whatever we can to make sure the culture of that school that gave rise to that tragedy gets changed.

When asked again if her office was investigating the case, she said it wasn’t: “We have not launched,” Ali said. “The state is investigating and prosecuting criminally – it’s investigating both the perpetrators of the bullying but also the school itself.

“So we’re watching and we’re working with local officials but we have not launched an investigation and as of right now don’t plan to,” Ali said. “We’ll see what happens with the state.

    He's calling Phoebe's mom a liar!

South Hadley, Mass (WWLP) - Superintendent Gus Sayer told 22News Phoebe's mother claims she contacted the South Hadley High School twice to tell the school about the bullying problem her daughter was facing, but Sayer says he has yet to find any record of such an exchange within the system.

"After making a statement apologizing for not calling the meeting weeks ago, chairman Edward Boisselle, held a public comment session.
The first two residents at the public speak out were thrown out, complete with police escort.
Emotions bubbled to the brim and eventually boiled over.
The first resident, accused the administration of covering up prior knowledge of Phoebe's death.
He was met by police after saying those in power were a "noose on the neck of the town."
The second parent, Luke Gelanis, was met by police after suggesting several officials be fired.
Later, Superintendent Gus Sayer, addressed questions of prior knowledge of bullying. He issued this explanation, saying officials didn't know the scope of the bullying.
"Tragically, Phoebe Prince herself did not make known to school officials the full extent of the bullying that was tormenting her," Sayer says.
Many complained afterward that the meeting was one-sided.

"Tempers flare and parents ejected by cops at Phoebe Prince school committee meeting"
Police had to intervene and three parents were taken from the hall after speaking out at a very tense meeting of the South Hadley School Committee on Thursday night. The chairman of the committee resigned amid heated discussions and a strong police presence.

The three parents angrily demanded the resignation of school officials over the bullying death of Irish girls Phoebe Prince who hung herself on January 14th.

It was the first meeting of the school committee since six students were charged with the bullying of Phoebe
