Assembly bills would regulate sale of underpants

April 15, 2010 7:49 AM

Steve Flamisch, Capitol Correspondent

ALBANY -- Closures. Layoffs. Underpants.

In the midst of what Governor David Paterson has called a "time of reckoning" -- marked by a more than $9 billion deficit and untold ramifications for health care facilities, non-profits, schools, and taxpayers -- there are two proposals before the state Assembly that would regulate the sale of underwear.

I've never bought an open bag of underwear so is this really a big problem? :waitasec:

I've never seen an open bag for sale!! :banghead:

Aye Yi Yi!!

Seriously???

Of all the things that they could be worried about, someone actually chose THIS???

What about places that don't sell skivies in a "package", like VS? What about bathing suits?

All I can picture in my head is a herd of Undie Police running around, undercover, trying to return icky knickers so they can issue a fine to that particular store...

Oh well... I live in a state where Installation of bathtubs with four legs resembling animal paws is prohibited. (Kansas City, MO)... So, I guess there are stupid laws all over the place...

You may laugh but it is a serious health hazard. there are thousands of casualties caused by unpacked undies each year. I can never get a parking spot near the lingerie store downtown because there is always a queue of ambulances in front of it.

Has anyone ever heard of anybody getting sick because they bought undies?

Weird Laws

More from Kansas;

* Pedestrians crossing the highways at night must wear tail lights.
* No one may catch fish with his bare hands.
* An ordinance in Lawrence, forbids anyone to carry bees in his hat while on the city streets.
* In McLough, it's illegal to wash your false teeth in a public drinking fountain.
* In Natoma, Kansas it's against the law to practice knife throwing at men wearing striped suits.

New York;

* A fine of $25 can be levied for flirting. This old law specifically prohibits men from turning around on any city street and looking "at a woman in that way."
- A second conviction for a crime of this magnitude calls for the violating male to be forced to wear a "pair of horse-blinders" wherever and whenever he goes outside for a stroll.
* It is against the law to throw a ball at someone's head for fun.
* The penalty for jumping off a building is death.
* In Carmel, a man can't go outside while wearing a jacket and pants that do not match.
* In Greene, it's illegal to eat peanuts and walk backward down the street while a concert is on.
* In New York, it is unlawful to eat soup with a fork and suck up spaghetti strand by strand.
* An old New York City law says you cannot fire a cannon except with the mayor's permission.
* It's against the law to walk down the street while reading in New York City.
* In Woodstock, it is illegal to walk your bear on the street without a leash.

I gotta go to the store, damn!! Where are my horse blinders!!

Some more from another site;

Kentucky
# In Lexington, Kentucky, it is against the law to carry an ice cream cone in your pocket.

# In Owensboro, Kentucky, it is illegal for a woman to buy a new hat without her husband trying it on first.

# In Kentucky, no female is allowed to appear in a bathing suit on a highway unless she is escorted by at least two police officers, or armed with a club.

Mississippi

# In Canton, Mississippi, it is illegal to kill a squirrel with a gun while in a courtroom.

I really want to know the reason behind that law!! :waitasec:

If you are worried about germs from an opened package of undies, you could always, I dunno, skip that pack and get a closed pack.

And, here's a wild idea - how about washing them before you wear them the first time...?

Otherwise, I guess the packages could come with coupons on your first purchase of Valtrex.

New Yorkers cannot dissolve a marriage for irreconcilable differences, unless they both agree to it.

In your link it mentions women can go topless, but it's illegal to wear body-hugging clothing. Hmmm, interesting!

I know right? You'll never see a girl running around topless though! (at least not in my neck of the woods... they still ticket you for indecent exposure!)

If we are gonna regulate underwear I think it only makes sense to begin with requiring that folks wear themin the first place. Then lets start discussing regulating those nasty thongs hangin out of lowrise jeans. We could then move on to regulating those young men that seem driven to run around with their boxers hanging out and their jeans dragging around their knees.

Finally, once we solve ALL of those issues, then we could have big brother step in and regulate sale of underpants.

All of the above is meant in a humorous vien. Hey legislators - how bout we solve some REAL issues, like truth in sentencing, the obvious problems with sexx offender registries and the lack of monitoring of parolees. You know, litttle, nuisence problems like that. Thanks for aiming big and tackling the world crisis in underwear. (NOT)
