Report: Cops Showed Misty Croslin Bones
Haleigh Cummings Vanished From Satsuma Home In Feb. 2009

An investigative reporter claims detectives showed Misty Croslin bones they recovered from the crime scene along the St. Johns River in the case of Haleigh Cummings, who vanished from her home more than a year ago. According to Art Harris of The Bald Truth, police believe the bones could be the remains of Haleigh, who disappeared from her Satsuma home in February 2009.

Art Harris claims Croslin shared the news with her brother, Tommy Croslin, last Friday night. The pair was on their way from the St. Johns County Jail, where they are awaiting trial on drug trafficking charges.

According to artharris.com, once the pair reached the Putnam County Sheriff&#8217;s Department in Palatka, detectives put Misty and Tommy Croslin in separate rooms for further interrogation before allowing them to ride together back to jail in the next county. Sources told artharris.com, it was their first extended visit since both were arrested on drug charges three months ago. Harris goes on to say "other than saying she showed 'emotion,' it&#8217;s unclear how either reacted or what was said, but their ride, like collect calls from jail, was caught on audio tape."

Police declined to confirm the account or comment on any possible evidence. But Terry Shoemaker, Ronald Cummings' attorney, told Nancy Grace of CNN that police have advised his client, and Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, to make funeral arrangements to bury their missing child.

The Bald Truth reported that Haleigh's family has turned over items containing Haleigh&#8217;s DNA for forensic experts to compare to DNA from bones found at the river.

Ann Dugger with the Justice Coalition said that the family has made preliminary inquiries with funeral homes, but no arrangements are made for a funeral or a memorial service.

During one visit to the river, Ronald Cummings told Art Harris, Joe Overstreet enjoyed tossing deer meat into the water and watching alligators go into a feeding frenzy. &#8220;He said, all of a sudden, there were a hundred eyes that popped out of the water, and Joe said, &#8216;This would be a good place to get rid of a body.&#8217;&#8221;

Haleigh's family told to make funeral arrangements, did cops find a body?

Detective Merchant, says police need to build a strong case without a body. Members from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office met with the parents of Haleigh Cummings today to let them know their options.

Sheriff Jeff Hardy announced last week that he is confident enough to say that 5-year-old Haleigh is likely dead. Now it is up to her parents to determine how to celebrate her life even without tangible proof of her death.


According to Merchant he presented two options to parents Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield about a funeral for Haleigh:

The couple could wait seven years for Haleigh to be declared dead by the state of Florida and then be issued a death certificate or they can go before a judge before the seven years lapses to request a death certificate.

The talk of funerals and death certificates all comes while Law Enforcement officials continue to deny that a body or any form of remains belonging to Haleigh Cummings were located during their three day search of the St. Johns River.

There are persons of interest still to be named. Sheriff's Office is not releasing names we were told "I think ya'll know who they are."

SATSUMA, Fla. - Misty Croslin saw bones on her recent visit to a dock along the St. Johns River, but they were not human bones, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

A tip last week led investigators to conduct an intense three-day search at the Shell Harbour boat ramp south of Satsuma in Putnam County.

Haleigh Cummings has been missing since February, 2009, and Misty Croslin is the one who said she put her to bed that night.

Croslin, now jailed on drug charges, was brought in shackles to the boat ramp.

According to the sheriff's office, divers had uncovered many bones and placed them near the dock to dry.

They were mostly deer bones, with some alligator and possibly other animal bones.

An anthropologist was on the scene to identify them.

The sheriff's office said Croslin saw the bones as she was being led to the ramp, but at no time did investigators tell her they were human bones.

The sheriff's office also said many of the bones were shipped to the FDLE lab for further investigation, and that some of those may be shipped on to other labs as well. While some items have been shipped to a human remains lab in Gainesville, investigators said that was only for teaching purposes at the lab, and they do not need those items back.

We have new information in the Haleigh Cummings investigation. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has issued the following statement to provide clarity to some media reports of a discovery of bones:

The agency had an anthropologist at the scene that identified all "biological" items that were recovered as being non-human. Additionally, Misty Croslin could have easily seen these items while she was at the dock while the dive operation was in progress.



In an effort to prevent this false information from impeding our investigation, Sheriff Hardy wants to quell these rumors so we can maintain our focus on the criminal investigation.

The Sheriff's Office issued a statement this afternoon that the skeletal remains of the missing 5-year-old have not been found. A rumor that her bones were disocvered "has been vastly misreported and sensationalized by the media."

The Sheriff's Office said an anthropologist identified all biological items that were recovered as being nonhuman.

Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, also issued a statement through her attorney that no funeral arrangements are in the process of being made. That too had been inaccuately reported by some of these outlets.

The sheriff in charge of the investigation into the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings has denied media reports that the girl's remains were found during a search of the St. Johns River last week.

"A rumor has spread throughout our community that her body has been located. This rumor is false," Sheriff Jeff Hardy said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Hardy said animal remains were recovered during the search, including alligator claws and teeth, but no human remains were found.

"Misty Croslin could have easily seen these items while she was at the dock while the dive operation was in progress," Hardy said.

Investigators recovered numerous items of a "biological nature" in the river search last week related to the homicide of Haleigh Cummings, but the items were not human, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office reported.

Maj. Gary Bowling said many items considered biological were found during a search of the dark waters of the St. Johns River near Shell Harbour Road last week. However, he said, officials with the C.A. Pound Human Identification Lab at the University of Florida "identified everything that was biologic as not human." "We found alligator toenails and teeth" and a variety of biological items, Bowling said. What else was taken from the river for examination, which investigators have not elaborated on, could take weeks to analyze, according to the Sheriff's Office. "We just took a bunch of things," Bowling said. "We took anything that could potentially be anything."

Asked how officers reached the decision that this was now a homicide case, Bowling said, "It's a lot of information over the last few weeks. None of us believe we are looking for an alive child anymore." But, he said, officials also have not told family members to "prepare for a funeral." Various news reports have said Haleigh's family were told to make funeral arrangements. "We would never tell them something as cold-hearted as prepare for a funeral," he said, adding that the family would be told if the girl were found.

Ann Dugger, executive director of the Justice Coalition, said the organization has been in touch with Haleigh's family. "We advocate for the innocent victims of violent crime. We will be there to advocate for them in any way that they need us," she said. "Until they have enough evidence to know she is not alive, they will not go forward with a funeral," Dugger said.
