    ND - Josh Blahna, 26, Kensal, 26 April 2010

Foul play not ruled out in ND man's disappearance
    Published Saturday, May 01, 2010

Foul play has not been ruled out in last weekend's disappearance of a Kensal area man.

State and local authorities continue to search the James River area in Foster County for signs of 26-year-old Josh Blahna, who was last seen Sunday.

    snip

Authorities have said footprints from Blahna's parked car with a flat tire led investigators to a shoe near the river. His mother later identified the shoe as belonging to her son.

Big search was conducted along river. LE doesn't know how Josh went missing, and haven't ruled out foul play.

Awfully hard to find info about Josh.

Found a tiny article, really just a pic and short blurb, of a woman he dated on and off and was friends with for 10 years watching the search for Josh.

Blahna's GPS signal from his cell phone stopped transmitting early Monday morning.

Authorities from the Carrington Fire Department started the search about noon Wednesday, in an area, 7 miles north and 3 miles west of Kensal, near Highway 9, with assistance from New Rockford, and the State Game and Fish Department. The land and water seach was called off due to high wind.

Flat tire, foot prints to a fence, Josh's shoe found near the fence.

I note the articles did not say that it was Josh's footprints so it could be that he was dumped by someone else in the river.

Sounds awfully violent for such a quiet area. Does anyone know any background on Josh?

article already posted, but thought this was interesting:

Blahna’s 1992 Buick was left with a flat tire just off his mother’s driveway and not far from the James River about 10 miles northwest of Kensal. An athletic shoe of his was found near the river Wednesday afternoon.
Foster County Sheriff Mike Tufte said Friday he wasn’t sure how Blahna ended up missing and hadn’t ruled out foul play.
Blahna worked part time for his father and also on wind towers. Not showing up for work or turning up missing is out of character, said his friend and former fiancé, Jen Schultes of Fargo.

Another article said that the footprints found near the car/flat tire, led them to the shoe found at the river.
I am a little confused. The other news article said the river was 10 miles away.

    Anyone good at google map?

very strange, did not realize the flat tire was at his mother's house. was that where he was living?

if someone wanted to harm him, I could see slashing a tire so he could not go anywhere but with what little background info there is, I can't see who would do that? I wonder if there is a drug history we don't know about.

Suicide does not seem to be in play, why kill yourself over a flat tire or slash your own tire then jump in the river?

It's starting to sound familiar... like those Smiley Face cases, especially since ND is sort of in that region.

The family is offering a reward.

This article clears up a few things. It does not look like his car was at his parent's house, at least not judging by the photo. He was living with his parents and also staying with friends.

    Thank you, webrocket!

    From the article:

Joshua Blahna, 26, went missing in the late hours of April 25 or the early hours of April 26. His car was found near his mother’s house about 10 miles northwest of Kensal. He was living with his father and mother in the Kensal area and friends in Jamestown.

Blahna is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes.

    snip

“We’re not giving up. We want to find out every little thing we can, even the last people who talked to him,” Tufte said. “We’re not giving up by a long shot.”

This week, Tufte said he plans to bring back search dogs and get a boat back on the river.
