He was an Anthropology major. MH's case immediately came to mind.

Gosh, how sad, she was such a beautiful girl with her whole life ahead of her!

Here's the Washington Post article involving the lacrosse players:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/31/AR2006033101879.html

"Huguely's father, George, Sr. said yesterday that he's had discussions with his son, who will play at University of Virginia next season, about staying out of situations that could be costly.

"'Regardless of what winds up happening, you have to learn from this experience and take what you can from it,' George Huguely Sr. said. 'You always have to remember and can't let yourself be in a situation where something like this could happen.'"

The son should have listened to his father.

OMG. What the heck happened here that resulted in so many shattered lives?? How could things have gotten so out of hand? I can't imagine the devastation of the families. What a beautiful girl she seemed to be. Both these young people were bright and athletically gifted. What kind of darkness entered their worlds in that prestigious academic setting?

I find it strange that police found her at 2:15 a.m. and arrested him at 6:00 a.m. What evidence do they have? The school newspaper quotes that after they saw her injuries they called for an investigation, and AT THAT POINT "our attention was drawn to Huguely." Why? Why must boyfriend or spouse be immediately implicated?

If he's the perp then fine, but it seems like they sure rushed to judgment.

The school newspaper:

It is evidence based practice to rule out the boyfriend/husband/significant other first.

I'm beginning to think there's something in the water down there. This sure has been an area for the media in the past few years.

ETA: Here is latest article I could find...also video.

At the Cockeysville, Md., home of Love's family, a woman who answered the telephone Monday and identified herself as a designated spokesman said, "The family has no comment at this time."

When reached by telephone, Huguely's grandfather, George Huguely III, said: "He was a wonderful child, and he was going to graduate. Hopefully he will be graduating. That's all I can tell you, okay? I'm sorry."

The University of Virginia and Charlottesville area LE spend a lot of time suppressing crime from the general public (including murders) and/or "blaming" the victim to give reason of how something horrible could happen in their picturesque "best place to live". The best kept secret was a serial rapist that was on the loose for about 10 years (and was a butcher at a local grocery where college students frequented) that they never bothered to alert anyone to, other than ohhhhh "another rape"

TEN YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

I learned this following the Harrington case. UofV want to keep things pretty quite. Don't know how they're going to handle this since the perp and vic were both students there. I feel bad for the families....this is truly tragic..two bright stars snuffed. Just wondering if the "jock mentality" has anything to do with it.

PHOTOS. Here are pictures of George Huguely and Facebook page details. George Huguely pics come as news that his Facebook page has reportedly been deleted.

Matt Dolloff at Gather reports “Huguely’s profile has apparently been removed”.

Meantime Yeardley Love’s apparent Facebook profile covered on LALATE earlier is still live and a new Memorial Facebook page has been set up.

Police Chief Longo said no weapons were used in her death.

I'm wondering since they arrested him so quickly if he confessed...it usually takes much longer to put together enough evidence for an arrest and I can't imagine they wanted it to be another student...no college wants that. So I would tend to believe they have solid reason to think he is the right person.

I am guessing he did say something when police came to question him. From the information released, this does not appear to be a planned murder, I would guess there was an argument of some sort.

Yet they are calling it 1st-degree...usually it would be 2nd degree or at least an open count of murder if they did not yet know the curcumstances. 1st degree does not usually apply to heat of passion. It almost makes it sound as though he went there to kill her, IMO.

They haven't even done an autopsy yet. His lawyer came with a statement that the death was not intended but an "accident." So I think the signs point to something that was not planned, and I don't know that this would actually end up as a first degree murder trail if it gets to trial (maybe there would be a plea bargain?).
