MURPHYSBORO, IL - Prosecutors have dropped some of the charges against a southern Illinois sheriff they've accused of dealing drugs and then plotting to harm witnesses in his upcoming trial.

Gallatin County Sheriff Raymond Martin had faced murder-for-hire charges in Jackson County, but those charges have now been dropped. He's still facing drug and witness-tampering charges in federal court.
