Woman found dead in Houston reported missing multiple times
Thursday, May 6, 2010
WASILLA, Alaska -- The family of a woman found dead in Houston says they want to know what happened.
Troopers found 22-year-old Donnay Box's body on a vacant lot last Friday, but family members say she went missing long before that.
The family said they filed multiple missing persons reports in late 2008 and early 2009.
Now they're looking for any information on where Box was last seen before she died.
When Box went missing in 2008, her family tried to find her. They put up posters throughout the Valley.
"We drove around and looked for her, a few people, a handful of people said they had seen her," Lee said.
Lee and Box's brother-in-law, Curtis Schmidt, say the last time family members spoke to Box was Oct. 17, 2008.
When Box didn't show up to a family gathering at Thanksgiving that year, Lee filed a missing person's report with troopers.
"It wasn't like her to be gone that long without calling, without popping up, without somebody seeing her," Schmidt said.
As expected, the family has many questions as to what happened to Box. They are asking anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward.
"There's a whole family here. There's a little boy here that's going to need to know about his momma one day and somebody's got the answer," Lee said.
Lee said at least three people filed missing person's reports. She also said that in May 2009, troopers informed the family that Box was alive -- she had been pulled over by troopers.
Wednesday, troopers told the family they couldn't find any information in their files confirming that. A spokesperson for the troopers said she cannot comment on any aspect of the case.

Mystery skull identified in Houston
May 5, 2010
Using dental records, Troopers identified the skull as belonging to Donnay M. Box.
A quick web search for the 22-year-old Box only turned up a Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman blurb that Box turned herself in on an arrest warrant for violating a domestic violence protective order in 2008.
Just to clarify, this is Houston, Alaska, not Texas.
Another reason why I would want WS pounding the pavement for me if anything ever happened to me. I know cases like these are the exception and not the rule, but still...it's that small percentage of incompetency that should never, ever happen.
