Canada - Alexandra Flanagan, 33, strangled, dismembered, Barrie, Ont, 8 July 2007

A walk in the woods unearthed a grisly discovery this holiday weekend.
Human remains were found by someone walking through the woods near Horseshoe Valley Rd. and the 6th Line of Oro-Medonte Township, just north of Barrie, just after 8 a.m. Saturday.
OPP Const. Peter Leon said an autopsy of the remains will be conducted Sunday in Toronto at the Centre for Forensic Science.

Second set of human remains found

Provincial police are saddled with the task trying to solve the mystery of two bodies found on the same day, miles apart.
An area resident made the first discovery while walking just after 8 a.m. Saturday in the Sugar Bush subdivision off Horseshoe Valley Road, near the 6th Line of Oro-Medonte Township.

Police are not speculating upon whether there may be a connection between the two.
After determining the first discovery was that of a human, OPP called in several teams, including the criminal investigation branch, the Barrie OPP crime unit, forensic identification unit, emergency response and the OPP SAVE (snowmobile, ATV and vessel enforcement) team.

The body appears to be male, based on the comments in this article. And, if the people who found the body could tell that it was male, it means that it couldn't have been there all winter. There has been a lot of warm weather this spring in that part of the province.

"We've heard it's from the belly button down and has no feet," Meagher said. "We were also told it was a male."

Two halves of body found on same day...80 miles apart!

    http://www.torontosun.com/news/toron.../14061361.html

The remains - that turned up on the same day just hours apart - startled a peaceful first holiday weekend of summer for two cottage country communities.

In the first case, remains were found around 8:20 a.m. in the woods off Valleywood Dr. in Oro-Medonte Township, just north of Barrie.

Around eight hours later at 4:30 p.m., Huntsville OPP were called to Maplehurst Rd. in Lake of Bays Township when someone out for a walk spotted human remains in a ditch.

The fact that both portions of the body were found on the same day, imply that they were just quickly dumped out of a vehicle, without much attempt to hide them.

I just googled the 2 approximate locations. They are 123 km apart, and approximately 1 hour 40 minutes drive. Both dumping sites are about 15 - 20 km off Hwy 11 in semi-isolated locations.

Since the body was recognizable as a male and it doesn't sound like it was buried, the death must have been fairly recent.

Thanks for starting this thread. This case is very, very strange. The body is thought to have been dumped at the sites on Friday night or Saturday morning. The person or persons involved may have wanted the body to be discovered and the entire body hasn't been discovered yet.

OPP Const. Peter Leon said that the body parts were dumped either late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

"The remains were located relatively quickly," said Leon, who added that whoever was responsible for the "gruesome homicide" likely wanted the remains to be found.

Police say that the body hasn't been fully recovered yet. Police say that both sets of remains belong to an unidentified male victim.

Body parts of a white man were found Saturday in Oro-Medonte and Lake of Bays Townships in Ontario. Provincial police Const. Peter Leon said the remains were dumped either late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Police haven't been able to identify the victim of the "horrific crime" because some parts of the body are missing, Leon said.

"This individual was dismembered, a very violent type of a death

He wouldn’t speak to the details, but one police source said the victim’s head and torso are yet to be accounted for.
The killers wanted to send a message, police say. So after killing the man, they left his body parts conspicuously strewn around Ontario’s cottage country.
Police believe the remains were dumped at the sides of roads, and the victim was killed the night before.
Coroners soon confirmed the body parts belonged to the same man, but identification is proving more problematic. “It’s going to be somewhat difficult, there are still body parts that are missing at the present time,” said Constable Leon.

This is the second murder like this in this area in the last 3 years.

The first was a female Alexandra Flanagan and they still haven't found all the pieces or made an arrest in this case.

Since she is not unidentified, missing, or a cold case, the thread would have to be set up in the Current Events Section.

Human remains found in third cottage country location
    Single victim believed involved
    May 30, 2010

Human remains found Friday in cottage country may be linked to those found in two separate locations May 22, the OPP said in a statement Sunday.

It’s the third discovery of human remains in the last week, with the two other grisly finds in the Oro-Medonte and Lake of Bays townships. The latest discovery was made Friday on the shoulder of Stoneleigh Road, just south of Muskoka Rd. 117, which runs between Bracebridge and Baysville by an employee of a paving contractor working in the area.

The latest remains, the OPP statement noted, “are believed to be associated to the human remains that were found” earlier. A post-mortem is scheduled for Toronto on Tuesday.

OPP confirmed last week that the remains found in the two locations earlier are from the same unidentified male victim.
    Don't believe EVERYTHING you think.
