Actor Dennis Hopper Dead at age 74

LOVED him. A countercultural icon.

Ride on, Dennis.

Hopper was one of my favorites.

I thought he was great in Easy Rider, brilliant (and creepy!) in Blue Velvet, and entertaining in the movie Speed.

Rest in peace, Dennis.

Sean Penn named his son Hopper (now a teenager), in honor of this Hollywood icon.

To do list for tonight:

Watch Easy Rider, Blue Velvet, and Sleepwalking.
Laugh.
Cry.

This guy was such a talent. Accomplished actor, director, and artist.

Two of my favorite recent photos of Dennis Hopper:

Sundance 2008:

And in front of an oil painting he did, 2001:

He was insane in Blue Velvet.

It's been so long since I've seen it.

I know he was better known for "Easy Rider" but for some reason I remember him from "Apocalypse Now". RIP.

Thanks for whomever tagged this thread. I had completely forgotten about him being in Rebel Without a Cause. I'm so glad I didn't throw out my VCR.

Did you know that he was also in Giant with James Dean?

I tagged the thread (and all are welcome to add to it!), but I hadn't realized he was in two of the three movies James Dean starred in until I read it on his Wikipedia page. Lots of good info here...

To tell you the truth, I had forgotten he was in Apocalypse Now, and briefly in Cool Hand Luke, too!

The Wiki page also says he starred in two movies with John Wayne (one was True Grit).

An astonishingly productive, prolific career. Thanks for walking through Hollywood history with me today, Smart Blonde.

After a promising start that included roles in two James Dean films, Hopper's acting career had languished as he developed a reputation for throwing tantrums and abusing alcohol and drugs. On the set of "True Grit," Hopper so angered John Wayne that the star reportedly chased Hopper with a loaded gun.

RIP Dennis, RIP.

He looked so frail and ill recently when he got his star on the Walk of Fame...I knew he wasn't going to be with us much longer.

He was a great actor and best of all, was totally his own person without apologies.

May Dennis now rest in peace.

Apocolypse Now and Easy Rider were life changing...wow. He will be missed.

RIP Dennis. You've left us with many classic performances. You will be well remembered.
