    Bennedetta "Beth" Bentley

The Woodstock Police Department is currently conducting a missing person investigation and by providing the following information, is seeking the assistance of the community. The subject of the missing person investigation is Bennedetta "Beth" Bentley, 41, female, Caucasian, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, blonde hair, brown eyes.

Bentley, who resides in Woodstock, left her home Thursday, May 20, in the company of a friend and travelled to southern Illinois. Bentley reportedly was last seen in Centralia May 23 boarding a train bound for Chicago.

It was believed that Bentley would then return to Woodstock from Chicago May 24; however, she has not returned nor has she been heard from by her family or known friends. Bentley was last seen wearing a black tank-top shirt, a blue-jean mini skirt and carrying a large white purse and a pink and orange Vera Bradley overnight bag.

The Woodstock Police Department is actively working on the investigation and is being assisted by a number of law enforcement agencies and other agencies throughout the state.

Anyone who has information as to the whereabouts of Bentley is asked to call the Woodstock Police Department Investigations Division at 815-338-2131.

Police continue search for Woodstock woman
    By BRIAN SLUPSKI - bslupski@nwherald.com

WOODSTOCK – Police are continuing to search for a missing mother of three who traveled with a female friend to the Centralia area before disappearing.

Benedetta “Beth” Bentley, 41, traveled by car with a friend May 20 to visit the friend’s boyfriend, who is rehabbing a house in the area, said her husband, Scott Bentley.

Police said the friend had decided to stay in the area longer, and Bentley was going to take an Amtrak train May 23 to Chicago. Bentley then would take a Metra train to Woodstock.

Scott Bentley said that he spoke to his wife several times while she was on the trip, and she never mentioned that she was going to take a train back. He said plans originally had her returning by car with the same friend she had traveled with to the area.

“I talked to her numerous times,” Scott Bentley said. “I just don’t know what happened to her. Unless you’ve experienced this, you can’t know how horrible and devastating this is.”

Woodstock Police Chief Robert Lowen said the department had enlisted the help of several agencies, including the Illinois State Police, the Centralia Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Woodstock also is working with Amtrak officials.

“The concern is that it is not the character of Beth Bentley to be out of contact for such a period of time,” Lowen said. “We are actively trying to ascertain who last saw her and where.”

Beth Bentley is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, and has blonde hair and brown eyes. She last was seen wearing a black tank top and a blue jean miniskirt, and carrying a large white purse and a pink-and-orange Vera Bradley overnight bag.

The Bentleys first met when Beth worked as an assistant in Bentley’s law office when she was 18. They were married in 2004, and Beth still manages the law office.

“A lot of guys would say, ‘How can you stand working with your wife?’ and I’d say, ‘I love being with her,’” Scott Bentley said. “My wife is a joy to be around; she made working a nice thing.”

Beth Bentley has three children, Jeremy, 21; Josh, 18; and Connor, 10.

WOODSTOCK – Police have been unable to verify whether a missing Woodstock woman ever boarded an Amtrak train bound for Chicago.

Benedetta “Beth” Bentley, 41, has been missing since May 23. Bentley and a female friend traveled to the Centralia area May 20 in a rented car. Woodstock police have not publicly identified the friend, but said the friend told them that Bentley was taken to the Amtrak station.

'But Bentley’s friend told detectives she drove her to a train station in Centralia, Illinois, on May 23, Police Chief Lowen said. “We don’t know why that decision was made to take the train back to the Chicago area,” Lowen added. “Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason that they would do that.”

“The only information we have from the friend is that she dropped her off at this train station, probably about a half-hour before the train departed,” Lowen said. “She never saw her get on the train.”

“We’ve been working with Amtrak police to see if the ticket has ever been purchased. We have no information that the ticket was ever purchased,” Lowen told CNN.

    ...
Now, the 41-year-old mother of three is the one for whom people are searching, the one whose photographs appears on missing posters. Bentley, of Woodstock, last was seen May 23 when a female friend dropped her off near a train station in Centralia, which is about a 70-mile drive from St. Louis.

    <snip>

“Over that weekend, I think I probably talked to her four or five times a day,” Scott Bentley said. “There’s never been a day gone by that we didn’t talk to each other.

But since then, Beth Bentley’s phone has not been used and her bank and credit-card accounts have not been accessed, Scott Bentley said.
There hasn’t been a peep from the woman who – as Scott Bentley put it – communicated so much she “would wear out her iPhones.”

Woodstock Police Chief Robert Lowen said police didn’t know of anyone in a close relationship with her who has had contact with her in the last three months.

“It appears that whatever happened, happened in southern Illinois,” Lowen said. “And we’re working with the other police down there to piece it together.”

Friends Still Seek Missing Woodstock Woman - Sept 1 2010

Friends Still Seek Missing Woodstock Woman
    September 1, 2010

[snipped...] “(The police) are very tight-lipped about it,” said family friend Angela Montgomery. “They don’t share a lot of information. As far as we know, they don’t have a lot of information. ... We’ve gone head-on with the sheriff’s department and police agencies in that area, because we believe it may be a personal opinion that Beth left on her own accord. I want them to know we believe she’s down there (in Southern Illinois) and that we know (the police) are short-staffed and have budget problems, but we also want you to look.”
    Don't believe EVERYTHING you think.
