Here is the deal:

No gossip or rumor

Clarify your opinions as such

LINK factual information. We are giving a bit of leeway FOR NOW because of the language barrier but generally MSM sources for facts is what we go with. Not blogs or opinion pieces.

Respect copyright. Copy 10% of the article and provide a link. Again,we a re giving a bit of leeway FOR NOW due to the language barrier. But that will tighten up again so may as well get used to it.

Sorry to sound so harsh but we have let the threads run so we could vent, compare notes, and generally get information out there on this unbelievable turn of events

But now it is time to get back to serious exchange of ideas and constructive discussion.

The name calling and pettiness has got to stop and will not be tolerated. IOW stop calling Joran- Urine and vanderslop . Good grief self edit and make sure your friends know the rule.

Thanks to everyone for working so hard here let's keep moving forward with good information.

ETA: Please alert on any post that violates etiquette or TOS. The moderators receive a direct link to that post and then the thread can move on without disruption. To report a post hit the little triangel in the upper right corner of the offending post. A text box will open up and you can tell us what is going on and we will do out best to act on it if we determine it is necessary.
It helps everyone when you alert, because there is nothing more frustrating than having a whole thread shut down because it has runamuck. When you alert for us we can find it see it and deal with it ASAP and keep things flowing.

Thanks.

I just posted a note about Joran telling Beth Holloway things that Natalee said when she was drunk and questioned whether it triggered memories of that same night 5 years before.

Here is the quote from the book:
According to Joran, after they left Carlos'n Charlie's, Natalee asked to see sharks.
He told her there were no sharks, but she insisted. So they drove to the lighthouse.
On the way over, Joran says he and Natalee made out in the backseat, but she was
"so drunk," she kept falling asleep and waking up.

Joran relates some crazy things Natalee supposedly said — that she's a lesbian,
that she's related to Hitler.

Did anyone else hear Mr. Kelly (Beth's attny.) say something about what JVS said regarding "tell Beth I will see her in five years"? It was something in his exchange with JVS I guess he asked "what if she does not pay you the money" paraphrasing here.......that struck me as odd that he was bringing up the date again of five years.....as the money exchange was coming up close to the anniversary.

Mr. Kelly said what if I don't have the money for you and that was JVS's reply to Mr. Kelly

Police say Van der Sloot brutally murdered Flores three days after meeting her at a casino. He broke her nose, strangled her, threw her to the floor then emptied her wallet and drove away in her SUV, said Gen. Cesar Guardia, chief of the criminal police.

The 6-foot-3 (190-centimeter-tall) Van der Sloot took about $300 worth of Peruvian currency ($104.00 US), two credit cards and Flores' national ID card, Guardia said. He said the suspect abandoned her car in a lower-class Lima neighborhood before fleeing south to Chile by bus.

This is where the $300.00 came from. (FYI)

There, he will have limited visitation privileges, and his lawyers will have to pay the guards for the right to consult with their client.

A police source in Lima told The Daily Beast that Peruvian prisons are controlled by criminal mafias. There are very few foreign inmates but they still have to pay protection money to the gangs for their own security. Sources in the National Penitentiary Institute say Van der Sloot will be sent to the Castro Castro maximum security prison, in the San Juan de Lurigancho district of Lima. Most of the foreigners there are serving time for drug-trafficking. There's just one other murderer in his section of the prison: a Colombian hitman called Hugo Trujillo Ospina who was convicted in the 2006 murder of a wealthy businesswoman, Myriam Fefer, on the orders of her daughter and lesbian lover.

"If he's going to survive he will need money," said the police source who spoke on condition of anonymity. "The state provides around $1.50 a day per prisoner, he will need to buy everything from toothpaste from a decent space in which to sleep. On top of that, the mafias will be pressing him for protection money, all foreign prisoners have to pay just to stay alive." The source added: "The prisons are run by the prisoners, everything is available there: drugs, alcohol, sex."

One of the questions for me now is this.......who is paying this lawyer of JVS? I suppose there is always somebody willing to step in and pay for someone to have an attorney....a private one at that.

Just wondering, is it possible SF & JVDS knew each other through some kind of poker game online and then decided to meet in person? Don't know if anyone already asked this question but I thought about it because someone said JVDS was addicted to poker and played games online.

GLORY,

You have a most excellent point.

I do get bothered when it appears people ignore something they can see, or pick and choose evidence if it bolsters their theory. You have stated in several posts that the coffee video somehow exculpates VDS. What you keep failing to mention is your explanation for why in the world he would leave the hotel room, fail to shut the door completely, immediately begin knocking, realize he has not shut the door, pull the door shut, and then immediately begin knocking again. Please explain how this shows anything other than VDS trying to create an alibi. Please explain why he knocks on a still-open door, and then shuts it and knocks again.

There is NO other reason for this action than to create an alibi. Who silently taps (I wouldn't call it knocking) on an open door, shuts the door, then repeats tapping.

Best,

Mel

I was taking care of a sick family member all day. I missed everything. Obviously, I know JVDS was charged & sent to prison. Anyone care to fill me in on the highlights of the day?

After van der Sloot was loaded back into the van to be transported to Lima's Miguel Castro Castro prison, Police General Cesar Guardia told The Daily Beast that most of what the accused murderer had confessed were blatant lies. "His toxicological report shows no signs that he had ingested any kind of drug," Guardia said, countering van der Sloot's perhaps strategic claim that he was high on marijuana when he killed Flores—in Peru, felony crimes committed under the influence of drugs can be treated with leniency in the courts.

Guardia also told The Daily Beast that van der Sloot lied about the timing of the murder. Earlier in the week, he told investigators that he had gone out to buy coffee for himself and Flores, and killed her when he returned to the room after finding the young woman on his computer. In fact, according to Guardia, hotel surveillance cameras show that van der Sloot faked his early-morning coffee run. Instead, he left the room with two empty paper cups and then summoned a member of the hotel staff to open his door, lying that he had forgotten his key.

According to Dateline, Beth Holloway is devastated that her money, the 25k financed JVDS trip to Peru.

It will be interesting to findo out if this article is true and there is no other footage of him leaving to grab coffee at the mini-mart. That means that the murder could have happened anytime between 5:15 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. In other words, it widens the time of death, again. :waitasec:

Yikes - I think that's a bit of a stretch for the magazine. If you look back at his 2006 interview, he doesn't mention she told him she was a lesbian, or related to Hitler. He said "her mother is Hitler's sister". Which I think was just a mean and vindictful statement. Also, nothing about her falling alseep in the backseat -- she was alert the entire time (per JVS). She seemed okay as they walked on the beach.

The falling asleep part was on the beach (again, per JVS). Do I believe him -- not entirely.

Here are the words out of his mouth.

So I guess he was going to claim somebody killed the girl while he was out getting coffee? But he didn't even leave the hotel to get the coffee? A brilliant mind he is not.

"The Dutchman will be held in a solitary cell for at least four or five months," a prison official told The Daily Beast. "For his own safety we cannot mix him with the other prisoners. This murder case is so infamous that he could easily be killed. There are a lot of murderers in this prison, especially hit men who can easily be contracted from outside … To the criminal mind, it's an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. They feel affronted that he's murdered a Peruvian girl and they would kill him for the honor of their country."
