Tracy Baber Smith, 43, did not show up for her nursing job at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on Tuesday, June 8. The unusual thing was that she did not let any of her co-workers know that she would not be coming in.
Smith has not been seen since.
Her family has now reported her as missing.
The Stokes County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a search and has had a helicopter flying over the county, looking for Smith’s car, which is also missing. The NC Highway Patrol is aiding in the process.
The missing car is a 2004 Saturn Ion Quad with a Smoky Mountain specialty license plate. The tag number is S715- SM.
The helicopter could be heard in the Danbury area on Friday morning. “She liked Hanging Rock,” said Major Durward Bennett of the Stokes County Sheriff’s Department.
No foul play is suspected at this time. Smith was on medication for emotional issues. According to a text she sent to her boyfriend just before her disappearance, she was battling some depression.
Smith is a white female with blonde, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. She is 5’4” and weighs about 160 lbs.
More information is available through the missing persons link of the Stokes County Sheriff’s Department Crimestoppers webpage.
Smith is originally from Charlotte, a Garinger High School graduate. She has lived in the King area for many years. “Tracy is much loved,” say family members who are circulating information about her, in hopes that someone will come forward with information.
Anyone with information should call the Stokes County Sheriff's Office at (336) 593-8787.
