Dive Team Searching Around Island

Residents on Sauvie Island said they are on alert for clues about Kyron Horman's disappearance.

Earlier this week, members of a Multnomah County dive team were spotted wading into waterways around the northwest Portland island. Deputies later confirmed the search was part of the investigation into the missing 7-year-old.

The divers returned again Wednesday, deputies said. There is no word on their findings or what brought them to Sauvie Island.

Sauvie Island looks like a great place for families and kids. I saw the Pumpkin Patch and corn mazes and stuff like that.

Sauvie Island was still being searched today, and residents are doing all that they can to keep watch:

Randy Laws, a fisherman, said locals have been checking their properties and along the riverfront to assist in the sheriff's investigation.

“I've seen some boats go by today and they were going pretty slow, so it looked like they were looking," Laws said.

Pacific North West Search and Rescue had been released from duty with all the other SAR teams on Sunday, but they've been activated again for Saturday for the Kyron search.

The announcement on their webpage reads:

PNW Group Training Cancelled this Saturday !
Submitted by Dave Xxxxxx on Wed, 06/16/2010 - 8:01pm.

We have been activated for a mission this Saturday (6/19). Apologies to those new folks that were planning to attend our monthly training.. We'll see you at the next meeting.

The North Oregon Regional SAR group has also been involved in the search. They have a cadaver/water recovery dog named Lopez who's been on the sheriff's boat this week, searching the waterways around Sauvie Island.

Here's a photo of Lopez in action. PHOTO

Those are some great pictures at the page Lopez' photo is at.

Yes,please keep us updated on these searches. Are they still searching there right now?I pray they find Kyron.

Tell me what it is you all are looking to do with search threads, and I'll get it sorted out.

Are you wanting separate threads for major searches like Sauvie Island?

That and one thread for all the 'minor' searches?

ETA: All searches in one thread for now

For me, it would seem better to keep all the searches on one thread, there are already soooo many threads that it is hard to figure out where there might be something new, and what is just rehashing of old information. The search thread would be a great place to just keep up to date on new things. So, maybe if it needs to be separated, we could just do "current searches" for those who want NEW information, and "the earlier searches" for anyone who wants to do the whole rehash thing????

This should help you find updates and then you can discuss what you find in any threads created for new news about searches or anything else.

Kyron Horman: Timeline of events since boy's disappearance

Tuesday, June 15

Early a.m. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office releases a photo of a pair of glasses that are just like the type Kyron was wearing when he was last seen.

8:45 a.m. The final day of classes for the 2009-2010 school year begins at Skyline Elementary.

Noon As a hail storm passes through the area, sheriff's Dive Team is spotted on a property near the Horman home. A sheriff's spokeswoman says the search of a pond on the property is routine, however.
