Investigators in Kyron Horman disappearance say they're not ignoring tips
Updated: Thursday, June 24, 2010, 6:14 AM

"If we released everything that we knew, we'd get all kinds of people that call in with all kinds of theories. What we want is when we get tips to get fresh information. If we get a call with details that haven't gone out, we know that person is a credible witness," Gates said. "That's integral to the case and that's going to help us solve it. When we release tidbits of information to the public, it's definitely in order to help us solve this case.

"Until we solve this case, the public does not have a right to know the details. Once we solve the case, they have every right to."

Boy’s case shows how social media helps – and how it hurts
The Portland Tribune, Jun 24, 2010

Yet, this week Knowlton found herself confronting the unseemly side of social media: the inability to control the “trolls” – Internet slang for people who leave inflammatory comments on discussion boards.

Trolls on the Facebook page – as well as those who comment on various news sites and on independently run blogs across the country – have tried to indict Kyron’s family members for the crime and made mean-spirited remarks about Kyron’s physical appearance.

When Knowlton told her readers she would be deleting those types of posts without warning, people accused her of being biased and unfair and violating their free-speech rights. They asked her to relinquish the site.

They also alleged she was defending Kyron’s family because she must be the mother of Kyron’s stepmom, Terri Moulton Horman – because Moulton rhymes with Knowlton.

“I have never met Mrs. Horman and I am not her mother, nor am I related in any way to this family,” Knowlton wrote. “I have tried to explain that I have been with the Child Seek Network since it was founded and that I am just a mom, grandmother and lady who is passionate about missing children!”

Horman appears jovial as he sings with fellow students at a school play, and is also seen in a school classroom reading.

All three videos are in the player to the right.

Kyron Horman's family released new video and 200 photos of the missing boy Thursday, one day ahead of a scheduled interview with members of the media.
The 7-year-old's biological parents, Kaine Horman and Desiree Young, are expected to meet with reporters Friday morning. The child's stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, will not be present.

ETA: the text that I snipped above about the press meeting has now vanished from the article so I am not sure if it has been cancelled/misreported/etc
