AVONDALE, AZ - Police are asking the public for help to identify a woman whose body was found in a river bottom in the West Valley on Sunday.

Reuben Gonzales with the Avondale Police Department said the body was discovered by a local fisherman in the Salt River bottom near Indian Springs and EL Mirage roads before 1 p.m.

The woman is between 20 and 25 years old, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, 100 to 110 pounds, with long brown hair and blue eyes.

Police said distinguishing features include a sun/moon tattoo on the top of her foot, a belly button piercing, silver toe nail polish, and she was wearing a t-shirt with a yin yang symbol on the front.

Police have provided the photo of a tattoo similar to the one on the woman’s foot.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office identified the body through fingerprints, he said. But the medical examiner could not determine a cause or manner of death, which Gonzales said was suspicious.

"You don't find a female body lying in a river bottom and not have undetermined (manner), undetermined (cause)," he said. "We suspect that it is a homicide, but there's nothing medically to prove that it currently is a homicide."

Investigators learned from Jurek's family in Wisconsin that she had been living in Phoenix on her own for about two years and worked in the adult entertainment business, Gonzales said. They interviewed co-workers and others who knew Jurek, but no one could provide useful information.
