WI - Joseph Anderson, 8, Sauk County, 30 June 2010

TOWN OF REEDSBURG, Wis. -- An 8-year-old boy has been reported missing in Sauk County.

The Sheriff's Department identified the boy as Joseph D. Anderson. Deputies responded to a call for a missing child on South Oak Crest Drive in the Town of Reedsburg at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and learned the boy had disappeared several hours earlier.

A person working with the search said that Anderson was last seen around 3 p.m.

He's wearing the same clothes (uniform?) in his picture as the ones he went missing in. I wonder if he was playing a sport when he went missing. Sure would like more info.

and if you look at this view, you can see how close it is to several bodies of water:

The Sheriff's Department says they do not have reason to believe this was an abduction, so no amber alert was issued. They say Joseph ran out of the house yesterday afternoon where he lives with his step-parents.
He headed south. His step parents searched for him for a few hours before calling authorities.
The Sheriff's Department doesn't know if he was upset; they say as far as they know the boy just ran off.
Dozens of people searched the area (near Oak Crest Drive) last night and into the morning. They do have a plane searching for Joseph from the air, but since much of the area is heavily wooded it's hard to see through the canopy of the trees.
There is also a river in the southern part of the search area. Crews will be searching along that river today.
Deputies also say they checked in with all of his friends to see if he visited them, along with his favorite hangouts in Reedsburg. They also checked places 15 miles away where they know the boy sometimes likes to hang out. But so far, they have no leads. Again, they do not believe this was an abduction.

The sheriff's department says Joseph Anderson's father reported him missing around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Dispatcher Randy Huelsemann says he was last seen about 3 p.m. when he went outside alone to play in the Town of Reedsburg.
Huelsemann says about 20 officials were searching the area Thursday, including a nearby wooded area.
He says he has no history of wandering away and his parents have no idea what could have happened. He says they've had several reports from citizens who may have seen someone resembling him.

For him to just run off seems strange. I'm wondering if he might have emotional or behavioral issues? It doesn't sound like he was mad at his parents and ran off, but I know we don't have much information yet.

Hopefully he's just hiding in the woods or something and will be found safe and sound. However, I can't imagine a boy of only eight years old not being scared to death after being alone for so long.

Dive teams and K9 teams are out. His grandfather doesn't think he would run off.

Darn it! I can't access Twitter from work!!

So his grandfather doesn't think he would run off but that's what his parents (or stepparents or whatever) are saying? That seems a bit odd.

I wondered about that too. Maybe just a misprint?

I wondered about that too, but with todays families any combination is possible. Perhaps mom divorced step dad who remarried but child still spends time with step dad, etc. Would that make a new wife a step parent????? Maybe our language is not keeping up with our family permutations....

It's what a deputy said in the video at the right.

    Perhaps he mis-spoke.

Meaning dad and step-mom or step-dad and mom.

It said in one report 'his father', so another stepmother? What is the place they checked fifteen miles away that he 'hangs out'? Thats a long way for an 8 yo.
