IL - Woman charged with aggravated battery 2 toddlers
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/cou...ers.htmlURBANA — A Champaign woman is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $15,000 bond following her arrest in connection with the aggravated battery of two toddlers.
Chanta R. Rivers, 28, who listed an address in the 800 block of West Harvard Street, Champaign, pleaded innocent Wednesday to four felony counts of aggravated battery to a child.
According to a police report, Rivers left her two sons, ages 2 and 3, at the children’s grandmother’s house on Tuesday. The grandmother noticed large bruises on the boys’ backs, and the children told her they had been whipped.
The children were taken to a local hospital, where doctors found bruises, red marks and welts on the boys’ arms, back, chest, neck, head and legs, according to the report. A doctor told police the injuries were consistent with being struck with a belt or a cord
