Maurice Davis was watching a rerun of The Oprah Winfrey Show about missing children a few years ago when he decided to do something about the problem.
Then he found out he was one.
Davis, 27, was adopted when he was 2. The few times he'd spoken to his birth mother, she'd given him contradictory and confusing accounts of his past. "She just seemed like a storyteller," he said.
He and his brothers assumed they'd been abandoned by their father, about whom they knew nothing. His career as a singer-songwriter was warming up – he was about to record "Missing Children" for a potential first album – when a phone call made the song much more personal.
