The body was found near Elliott Road in Glenora, an enclave southwest of Duncan, around 3:30 p.m.
Police believe that the body was burned at the scene, but have not determined its identity, age, gender or cause of death. However, foul play is suspected.
Island District RCMP Cpl. Darren Lagan said the body appears to belong to an adult.

R.I.P.

RCMP Corporal Darren Lagan said 28 officers, including forensic identification experts, dog handlers, air service and an eight-man crew conducting a “grid search” were still on the scene late Tuesday.
However, Cpl. Lagan said the body was “damaged significantly by the fire, which made … any determination of age or gender impossible.” The body could have been in the woods anywhere from “a couple of days or a couple of weeks,” he said.
An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday morning is expected to shed more light on the mystery, Cpl. Lagan added.

Police arrested 24-year-old William Gordon Robert Elliott Friday afternoon and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Karrie Ann Stone, 42, and Tyeshia Jones, 18.

"Karrie was the type of person . . . she just forgave everybody no matter what anybody did to her," said Stone. "And I’m sure she would want me — over time, at some point down the road — to forgive this man for what he has done to her, but that might be awhile coming."

Chilling details were revisited as sentencing began in Duncan court Monday in the trial of William Gordon Robert Elliott, who pleaded guilty last summer to the murders of Karrie-Ann Stone and Tyeshia Jones.

The Crown’s Scott Van Alstine and Laura Ford began proceedings by informing court they would be asking for the maximum sentence of 25 years before Elliott is eligible to seek parole. The prosecution shared details of both murders, as well as the investigation, specifically a “Mr. Big” sting operation in which Elliott confessed to undercover police.

Mothers of the two murdered women broke down in tears outside the Duncan courtroom where Judge Keith Bracken handed down a sentence to William Gordon Robert Elliott of 20 years before the possibility of parole. Elliott pleaded guilty last summer to the murders of 42-year-old Karrie-Ann Stone in July 2010 and 18-year-old Tyeshia Jones in January 2011, and he will serve a life sentence on the two counts of second degree murder, to be served concurrently.
The sentence falls in between the maximum of 25 years without parole that Crown prosecutors Scott Van Alstine and Laura Ford argued for and the more lenient sentence of 10 to 15 years without parole that defence lawyer Scott Sheets endorsed.
