Police arrested 24-year-old William Gordon Robert Elliott Friday afternoon and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Karrie Ann Stone, 42, and Tyeshia Jones, 18.

The sentencing hearing for a Vancouver Island man convicted in the murders of two women near Duncan is scheduled to get underway on Monday in B.C. Supreme Court.

Chilling details were revisited as sentencing began in Duncan court Monday in the trial of William Gordon Robert Elliott, who pleaded guilty last summer to the murders of Karrie-Ann Stone and Tyeshia Jones.

The Crown’s Scott Van Alstine and Laura Ford began proceedings by informing court they would be asking for the maximum sentence of 25 years before Elliott is eligible to seek parole. The prosecution shared details of both murders, as well as the investigation, specifically a “Mr. Big” sting operation in which Elliott confessed to undercover police.

Mothers of the two murdered women broke down in tears outside the Duncan courtroom where Judge Keith Bracken handed down a sentence to William Gordon Robert Elliott of 20 years before the possibility of parole. Elliott pleaded guilty last summer to the murders of 42-year-old Karrie-Ann Stone in July 2010 and 18-year-old Tyeshia Jones in January 2011, and he will serve a life sentence on the two counts of second degree murder, to be served concurrently.
The sentence falls in between the maximum of 25 years without parole that Crown prosecutors Scott Van Alstine and Laura Ford argued for and the more lenient sentence of 10 to 15 years without parole that defence lawyer Scott Sheets endorsed.
