NV - Beth Jardine, 23, murdered in her Las Vegas home, 3 June 1985

    http://www.lvrj.com/news/man-guilty-...4.html?ref=004

Justice for Beth Lynn Jardine might have been delayed for 25 years, but it wasn't denied.

A Clark County jury deliberated less than an hour on Wednesday before finding 61-year-old Charles Conner guilty of first-degree murder and two counts of sexual assault for killing and raping Jardine in 1985....

Is there any indication WHY he killed her? Or how he chose her to kill?

It's unclear, and was heavily argued at trial. It appears to me that she was randomly chosen. She was beaten to death with a hammer. As for why he did it, the defense gave alcohol as a factor. IMO he was a very evil man, who had an opportunity and took it. Simple as that.

That story also says that the murderer beat her with a claw hammer, and then after beating her, 'had anal sex' with her.

I really wish that courts, news reporters and, well, pretty much everybody would start learning that unless there are two legally consenting adults participating, it is not called sex, it's called RAPE. It's doubtful she was even capable of consenting, since she was beaten to death. Start calling rape 'RAPE'.

So happy justice was served for this poor woman.

This guy is an animal and it's a shame he was not brought to justice many, many years ago. His crime was horrid.

"On June 3, 1985, Jardine, a 23-year-old airman 2nd class stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, was found in her northeast Las Vegas apartment by maintenance workers. She was nude and had been bludgeoned to death with a claw hammer."

The Nevada Supreme Court today reversed the first-degree murder conviction of a death row inmate found guilty of the sexual assault and hammer slaying of a Las Vegas woman. The court sent the case of Charles Reese Conner back to the Clark County District Court after determining that one of the prospective jurors was excused by the District Attorney’s Office solely because he was black.

Justice Michael Cherry, who wrote the court’s majority decision, said District Judge Elissa Cadish erred at the 2010 trial by not allowing Conner's defense to lodge an objection to the exclusion of the juror. The juror in question had worked as a correctional officer, a police officer and had served in the Navy. He told the court he could impose the death penalty if the circumstances warranted and would follow jury instructions, according to court documents.

It will be up to Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson to decide whether to seek a new trial or a plea deal.
