(WHAS11) A Bullitt County teenager is missing and may be with a convicted sex offender, who is also missing. But the mystery around her disappearance is even stranger; she was scheduled to testify against the sex offender in the coming weeks.

Cops Fear Missing 19-Year-Old Brittney Kustes May Be With Sex Offender
Roy Elwell Had Held Brittney for Several Days When She Was 17, Mother Says
By DEAN SCHABNER
July 24, 2010
Elwell was not at the address were he is registered as a convicted sex offender, and police came up empty at other locations they checked, McGaha said.
But one of those places was a home in Spencer County, Ky., where a woman told police she had been with Elwell, McGaha said. When Bullitt County investigators contacted their counterparts in Spencer County to ask them to look into the tip, they were told that a dead body had been found at the house this past week. The young woman was seen on Tuesday, by a woman who described her as having black marks, bruises and tears on her face, Kustes said. The woman said that when she approached Brittney, who was in a small gold car, to ask if she needed help, a man yelled at her to get away and they drove off.

Wow! They believe she's being held against her will by a RSO and they're hardly looking for her. This is ridiculous!

Laurie Kustes, Brittney's mother, said the 19-year-old was supposed to testify against Elwell next week
I can not believe there isn't a massive search effort for Brittney!! This guy sounds like a psychopath (JMO, of course)! He assaulted her when she was 17-- he sounds like a predator who is now trying to get rid of a witness...
Are they not searching harder because she is now 19 and an adult?? perhaps there is more I don't know, but from the surface this looks very, very bad...
Prayers for Brittany...
An official says the person who saw Kustes in Taylorsville said she was asking for food and that Elwell would "not let her out of his sight."A run-away may leave on purpose, but that doesn't mean that they are able to get back home.... Never stop searching.

PS. this article said she's missing from Brooks, Ky. That's where her grandmother lived and she was last seen swimming with a friend. Well, she's been spotted since, but Brooks is where she went missing from.
PPS......another article mentioned Spencer County, Ky, where the RSO is SUPPOSED to be.

Bullitt County KY shares a county line with Jefferson County Kentucky (IIRC a few years back the city of Louisville and Jefferson County merged).
Brooks KY is very close to the county line with Louisville-Jefferson County. It's out there by Fairdale IIRC.
Spencer county is more eastwardly IIRC (going off memory and I can't google a map right now because I have to get up as soon as I finish this post and run an errand) but it's about an hour or so away?
Lot's of open land in there. IIRC there aren't really mountains in that area but there are places to hide out if need be.
All just MHO from memory and speculation.

Missing teenager profiled on AMW web site
"Struck her as odd that he was holding her cell phone, but she said what was even odder was that really odd was the fact that Brittney wanted to use the bathroom and he went to the bathroom with her; he wouldn't even let her go to the bathroom," says Det. McGaha.
