BRIDGEPORT — The family of a man who has been missing since Sunday has released his photograph, and is asking anyone who has seen him to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Roy Leon Groeneveld, 43, of Bellingham, was visiting his parents on Tacoma Street in Bridgeport when he left the home between 10 and 11:30 p.m. He is listed as a missing and disabled person, and law enforcement authorities are attempting to locate him.
Undersheriff Don Culp said deputies used a patrol boat to check the shoreline of the Columbia River. They also checked on a call from someone who thought he may be in Okanogan County; they have not found him.
“Right now, we’re at a loss of what to do next,” Culp said.
His brother, Bruce Hall, said Groeneveld suffers from both mental and physical illnesses, and did not take his medications with him.
Hall said the family is concerned because he could have wandered to the river or into a remote sagebrush field without water.
“He’s not a dangerous person,” Hall said, but he may be disoriented.
Hall said his brother had about $50 with him, and it’s possible he offered someone gas money to take him to Bellingham or somewhere else. “That’s how he gets around. He doesn’t drive,” Hall said. So far there’s no evidence that happened, however.
If you have information about his whereabouts, please call RiverCom Dispatch at 663-9911 and ask for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Roy Leon Groeneveld - Notice of Memorial Service
by By The Wenatchee World Staff July 26, 2011, 11 a.m.
Roy Leon Groeneveld
He disappeared July 25, 2010, from his parents’ home in Bridgeport and is believed to have drowned in the Columbia River a few blocks from their home. He was very ill, but had come to his aunt, Colleen Groeneveld’s memorial service the day before. The only trace of him was that a blood hound tracked him to the river.
