BRIDGEPORT The family of a man who has been missing since Sunday has released his photograph, and is asking anyone who has seen him to call the Douglas County Sheriffs Office.
Roy Leon Groeneveld, 43, of Bellingham, was visiting his parents on Tacoma Street in Bridgeport when he left the home between 10 and 11:30 p.m. He is listed as a missing and disabled person, and law enforcement authorities are attempting to locate him.
Undersheriff Don Culp said deputies used a patrol boat to check the shoreline of the Columbia River. They also checked on a call from someone who thought he may be in Okanogan County; they have not found him.
Right now, were at a loss of what to do next, Culp said.
His brother, Bruce Hall, said Groeneveld suffers from both mental and physical illnesses, and did not take his medications with him.
Hall said the family is concerned because he could have wandered to the river or into a remote sagebrush field without water.
Hes not a dangerous person, Hall said, but he may be disoriented.
Hall said his brother had about $50 with him, and its possible he offered someone gas money to take him to Bellingham or somewhere else. Thats how he gets around. He doesnt drive, Hall said. So far theres no evidence that happened, however.
If you have information about his whereabouts, please call RiverCom Dispatch at 663-9911 and ask for the Douglas County Sheriffs Office.
