Hikers find skeletal remains in Catskills

Associated Press

THOMPSON -- Authorities are trying to identify a partial human skeleton discovered by hikers in a rugged area of the Catskills.

Sullivan County sheriff's deputies say the discovery was made Sunday in the woods off a rural road outside Monticello, 78 miles northwest of New York City.

Officials say the remains appeared to have been in the woods for some time. No other information was released.

It was the second human skeleton discovered in the town of Thompson since May, when hikers found a partial skeleton of a woman lying above ground.

Authorities later recovered most of the skeleton, including a skull, lower jaw and teeth. The state police crime lab in Albany determined the remains are those of a white woman, age late 20s to 40. She hasn't been identified.

ModNote: The UID discovered in May was subsequently ID'd as Ildar Gazizulin

BBM. It looks like we have two sets of remains confused. The remains found in May appear to be female. This thread was started for what appears to be a second set of remains determined to be male in the same area.

ETA: I can't find a working link to the original article in the OP for which this thread was started, but it is dated August 3rd and clearly indicates the remains in this article were found on Sunday (which would mean Sunday August 1st, as the article was from Tuesday August 3rd) hth.

strange, same town? the Namus link I posted said the male skeleton was found near Patio Drive in Thompsonville.

There is no namus link for the UID for which this thread was started.

Did they ever ID the other set if remains?
