CT - Nine dead at Hartford Distributors, Manchester, 3 August 2010

I heard on the news this morning (NBC) that this man's family/gf is claiming he was suffering from racial bias at work.

A girlfriend of Thornton indicated he was a victim of racial harassment at the beverage center, the mother of the girlfriend told CNN.
Thornton told his girlfriend he had reported to a company supervisor and a union representative about the harassment but they did nothing about it, Joanne Hannah said Tuesday.
Teamsters officials deny allegations that Thornton, who was black, snapped because of racial harassment.

But I heard on the radio this morning that the union said they had never had a complaint from him concerning racial bias. ????

What is he going to tell his family? That he got caught on video stealing beer? No he played the race card.

8 lives, plus his own. Nine families' lives shattered, countless coworkers and friends devastated, witnesses surely traumatized for life. All because this animal was caught heisting a couple cases of beer and being asked to resign. Pointless!

I lived in Manchester for a while and it's a fairly mellow town...I'm sure the community is stunned over this one. I wish they'd release the names so I could find out if the victims were anyone I know. My heart aches for these families.

And I am so tired when people do things like this (killing) and the race card is played. I was called a cracker or honky many times in school coming up but didn't make me want to kill any of this people. If you going to do the crime then do the time. Quit making excuses! We have a case right here in my town where a police officer killed a convenince store owner. He knew the owner made large cash deposit in bank cause he (the officer) worked the bank off duty. Been in jail for about 10 years on a LWP and now he is playing the race card, wants to be set free. Killed the store owner in cold blood (while the man was begging for his life). I am so tired of the race card...............JMO

Manchester police identified the other victims as Francis Fazio Jr., 57; Edwin Kennison, 49; Craig Pepin, 60; Louis Felder Jr., 50; Victor James, 61 and Bill Ackerman, a 51-year-old warehouseman

Steve Hollander was treated at Hartford Hospital and released. Jerome Rosenstein, 77, was in serious condition there Wednesday.

The beer the killer stole was sold to a woman, now she is arrested. There must have been a big loss from his truck, as they had a PI follow him....

The company said it hired a private investigator to follow and videotape Thornton for several weeks after it was suspected he was stealing from his truck, according to CNN Hartford affiliate WFSB.

Kristi Hannah (killer's girlfriend) told reporters that Manchester police had asked her to view the tape and possibly ID a woman seen getting the swiped suds from Thornton, a truck driver for a large beer distributor.

Hannah, 28, asked the cops if the other woman was a "blonde," she told reporters.

Cops told her they would have to check the tape again to see if that was the case.

Hannah, who was nervous about talking to police without a lawyer, then told cops she would not watch the video in their presence.

Also another article states that he was seen giving beer to a few different people.

Thornton called 911 after shooting 10 fellow employees, eight of whom died, in the Hartford, Conn. beer distribution center. He introduced himself as "the shooter over in Manchester," and calmly told the operator that he had "handled the problem" of what he called a "racist place."

"They're treating me bad over here. And treat all other black employees bad over here, too," Thornton explained in a measured tone. "So I took it to my own hands and handled the problem. I wish I could have got more of the people."
