Body found in lake becomes homicide case

CHEYENNE -- Police have identified the body of a man found in Lake Absarraca and are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The man was identified Thursday as Jerry C. Moshier, 35. Based on information acquired from papers found on the body and talks with relatives, Cheyenne police detectives have designated him as a transient.

Sgt. Rob Dafoe said Moshier worked in the concessions area at Cheyenne Frontier Days as part of the traveling carnival.

"We are treating it like a homicide, but that has not been determined," Dafoe said. "We are still awaiting autopsy results."

He said based on the location of the body and the "suspicious nature of the death," treating the incident as a homicide would be standard procedure.

The man responsible for the death of carnival worker Jerry Moshier in August 2010 will spend 13 to 18 years in prison.

Bradley O. Petty, 31, was sentenced Thursday by Laramie County District Judge Michael Davis on one count of voluntary manslaughter. Petty had previously pleaded no contest to the charge in Laramie County District Court...

An autopsy showed that Moshier died of blunt force trauma to the head, face and chest, followed by a subsequent drowning. Laramie County Coroner Marty Luna said Moshier was held under the shallow water... Petty had attempted to rob Moshier and wound up killing him in the process.
