WA - 10-year old shot with own gun during robbery attempt
Where did a 10 yo child get a gun?
What the heck was the bus driver doing when this was going on?
How many 10yo's are robbing people and NOT getting shot?
This is sad and scary at the same time.

Holy smokes! 10-years-old with a gun, robbing people. He's lucky he didn't get his head blown off. What in the world is a 10-year-old doing out running around unsupervised? I guess we all know the answer to that.

Let me pick my jaw up off the floor
More from the link:
The assault took place on a Metro bus.
A group of boys, ages 10, 12, 14 and 15, confronted the 17-year-old. The 10-year-old demanded to know where he is from, then ordered him to empty his pockets.
The boys surrounded him, and the teen feared that he was about to be robbed.
The 10-year-old took off his backpack and unzipped it, then reached inside.
The teen thought he was about to be shot, so he grabbed the boy in bear hug.
The 10-year-old's hand was pinned in the backpack, and a shot went off in the ensuing struggle.
The 17-year-old thought he had been shot. When he realized that he wasn't, he grabbed the backpack and jumped off the bus.
The other kids assaulted him, but he managed to break free.
Detectives released the 17-year-old, and police say the 10-year-old faces robbery and weapons charges after he is discharged from Harborview
Perhaps a life of crime is NOT for him.Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don't say it mean.
We are all just trying to make sense of an unimaginable crime.

Snip..."Seated between his attorney and his mother, the boy with a bullet hole in his arm looked every bit the 10-year-old he is.
Dressed in the child-size navy blue scrubs issued residents of the King County Juvenile Detention Center, the 4 ½-foot-tall boy sat silent as Seattle Police gang detective outlined his run-ins with police.
Since age 8, the child has had 13 contacts with police. He's alleged to belong to a gang, suspected in a five violent felonies, including kidnapping and robberies..."
and later in the article..."Speaking outside of court, the 10-year-old's mother offered a different account of her son's shooting, claiming the alleged victim instigated the altercation.
The woman, who seattlepi.com is not naming in the interest of protecting her child's identity, claimed her boys were headed home from football practice when the 17-year-old threatened the youngest boy.
She contended her other sons were defending their brother during the fight outside the bus.
"What would you do if your brother was attacked?" she asked following Thursday's hearing.
Authorities, she continued, were "railroading" her 10-year-old.
"I just want him to come home so I can take care of him," she said..."
With a mom like that waiting for him at home, this kid doesn't stand a chance of rehabilitation. The courts and juvenile services will do what they can to straighten him up and then when he goes home to mommy she will undo all the good they might have done.

Ya know, Alaska. I completely understand mothers wanting to believe the best about the children that they carried and bore, BUT, there is a very thin line between that and enabling/denial.
She didn't even address why or how he had a weapon. I'm afraid for him to go back home to her so she can "take care of him" We certainly see how far THAT has gotten him. I swear, sometimes kids just don't stand a chance.
ETA: After reading this article it appears that the gun was in the 17 yo back pack and the 10 yo was attempting to steal it. The other articles made it sound like the 10 year old had the gun in his backpack.

and how many victims will they leave in their wake?

Aaaahhhhh! I just can't believe sometimes that people have no clue of how to be a Mom! My life was pure hell, on my own at 16, Mom dead, searching for truth. Did I rob? No, I went on the bus to finish high school ! What is this world coming to?
Aw, never mind, I know.
Bless you dear mothers, may you have a peaceful life.
Websleuths, a haven for humans ! : )If Marc could still smile big, so can I.

So, when EXACTLY does CPS get involved? When the child is allegedly connected to a KIDNAPPING or when he kills someone? Because she has multiple children who, as a social worker, I would feel absolutely compelled to remove all of her children and have her charged with neglect, endangerment, and corruption of a minor!
