    Dear Poster Partner:

It is with great sadness and deep regret that we notify you that Cemal Cansev missing from Brooklyn, NY, has been located deceased.

    Per NCMEC.

The first notice is what NCMEC sends out if they are found safe, and the second is if they are found deceased. Since both were sent, I'm not sure of the circumstances of how Cemal was found. Hoping to find more information.

Cansev, 16, disappeared from Brooklyn, New York on June 27, 2003. He was classified as a runaway for years, although he didn't take any belongings with him and his family said he wasn't having any personal problems. In February 2011, his body was identified. Cansev's body had been found floating offshore near Hart Island just ten days following his disappearance.

Such a tragic story. How many more of our missing are out there just like this?

'I spent eight years searching for my son... only to find he drowned just 10 days after going missing'

A father spent eight years searching for his missing son before learning the boy had been buried in an unmarked pauperís grave following a series of 'mistakes'.

Cemal Cansev, 16, never returned after leaving his home in New York in 2003 and his father Sahil, 54, travelled across the U.S. searching for him and chasing leads.

But police told him in February that Cemal had in fact drowned off a Brooklyn pier ten days after he went missing - with his body misidentified because of water damage.

    [snip]

The boy was originally misidentified as a 25-year-old Asian man because his body was so damaged from being in the water, the medical examiner's office said.
