The body of Nicole Ayers aged 22 of Deptford, New Jersey was found in a wooded area right behind a soccer field. She had been stabbed and had other injuries.

LE had evidence linking the murder to Stephen Headley aged 25 from Burlington who is in the hospital. After a meeting with his mom and grandmom Monday evening he fled and got hit by a pickup truck. The link doesn't say but our local news said he had a broken back.

"Instant Karma's gonna get you...."

"This isn't a news story. This is a tragedy" said friends, neighbors and relatives of Nicole Ayers as reporters stood outside the famileis home in Deptford, NJ.

Stephen Headley's broken ankles, ribs and busted back may mend but the ace pitcher has been murdered.

Headley showed up at his grandmother's house in Medford, New Jersey (that's just great) and they went to his mom's home where he confessed to murdering Nicole Ayers.

His mom called the police and that is when he fled and was hit by the truck. Mom said he had anger issues. The mother of Headley believed the two knew eachother through mutual friends and met up at a local WAWA.

RIP dear girl. I am so sorry someone hurt you like that.

Sounds like Stephen would benefit from the expert care of one Nurse Annie Wilkes.

The first time Stephen Headley wound up in jail was in 2004 after he'd been charged with kissing and fondling an 11 year old at a skating rink.

Headley was on a video monitor yesterday for court. He's obviously out of the hospital. He appeared calm and expressed concern for his grandfather for whom he said depended on him. "He's in the hospital right now" said Headley.

God Bless Nicole's family. That would have flipped me out. You're worried about your grandpop while these poor people had their daughter brutally murdered at your hands? That takes some real gonads.

$750,000 full cash bail.

MOUNT HOLLY — A Florence man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a star Gloucester County athlete to death in Burlington County in September 2010.

Stephen Headley, 30, said in court Tuesday he stabbed Nicole Ayres, 22, of Deptford, several times during an argument.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 3. Prosecutors will ask for life imprisonment, although Headley could wind up being sentence to 30 years without parole.

From January 2013:

Headley, who pleaded guilty to killing the softball star from Deptford, was sentenced to 50 years in state prison on Wednesday...

An original plea deal worked out in June offered him 30 years without parole, a sentence the Ayres family staunchly protested, creating a campaign to urge Palmer to reject it. They gained more than 6,000 signatures from across the country on an online petition, and Palmer decided in November that the 30-year plea deal was unacceptable...

Many also pleaded for real answers about why Ayres and Headley met up at a Wawa in Medford on the night of Sept. 12, after they spoke briefly on the phone, and what interactions they had before they argued in her car and Headley violently attacked her. Family members have said they aren’t sure Headley is the “Steve” she thought she was meeting. Headley has said he blacked out, has no memory of the murder and has offered little to no details of their meeting.
