TIMELINE

A timeline of events leading up to the disappearance of 81-year-old Clinton resident Ethel Winstead Simpson:

• 12:51 p.m. Monday — James Cobb Hutto signs in as a guest to use the facilities of the Baptist Healthplex in Clinton. Shortly after, he and 81-year-old Clinton resident Ethel Winstead Simpson are seen talking to each other on the facility’s walking track.

• 3:45 p.m. — Simpson backs into another vehicle in the Healthplex parking lot as she’s leaving, breaking her tail light. She returns to the building’s front desk to report her accident.

• 4:15 p.m. — Simpson and Hutto are seen leaving the Healthplex together in Simpson’s car. Hutto is driving.

• 4-4:30 p.m. — Simpson reportedly takes Hutto to Taco Bell on Springridge Road, just a few blocks from the Healthplex. The two are then seen at the Comfort Inn in Clinton, a block or two from Taco Bell.

• 5 p.m. — Simpson returns alone to her Clinton home.

• 6:30 p.m. — Simpson leaves her home alone.

• 8:36 p.m. — Simpson and Hutto are seen entering the Riverwalk Casino in Vicksburg.

• 11:40 p.m. — Simpson and Hutto are seen leaving the casino together in Simpson’s car. Hutto is driving; Simpson is a passenger.

• 3:05 a.m. Tuesday — Simpson’s car is seen traveling eastbound on I-20 at the Pearl city limits via law enforcement equipment that uses lasers to read license plates.

I know, right? I've lived here since forever, and I never knew they did that. Creepy, but in this case at least we know which direction he/they were going.

And that very direction is what worries me the most. Clinton (where she lives and met him), Vicksburg (casino), and Pearl (where cameras recorded the plate) are all on I-20, which runs east to west. Vicksburg is on the west, Clinton and Jackson are in the middle, and Pearl to the east of Clinton/Jackson.

So they left Clinton and headed west to the casinos (where they were seen leaving together), then when the car is spotted headed east by the cameras, it has already passed Clinton. To me, this indicates a possibility of the car headed to Alabama, because there's not much else between Pearl and the state line besides a lot of small towns and national forest.

I wish we knew if she was still in the car when it's plate was captured in Pearl. I'm afraid that something happened to her before that time, but after they left the casino. I hope I'm wrong, and she's off having the time of her life. But his background leads me to believe otherwise. :(

Sorry to double post, but there has been new information:

I think the original story has been updated too. Don't remember seeing this before (my bold):

"Byington [Clinton police chief] said a National Crime Information Center check on Hutto showed convictions on sexual abuse, domestic violence, first-degree kidnapping, felony trespassing and harassment by communication.

A warrant had been issued for Hutto’s arrest by Alabama authorities because he has failed to register as a sex offender as required by law, Byington said."

This is looking worse by the minute. I'm just furious.
 
This is sounding worse by the minute. They bypassed her home, somewhere around 3 am, and his long rap sheet. He also is driving when they leave the casino.

We posted that at same time. :) Much worse. And I hate that police waited 72 hours to tell us about this. His rap sheet should have precluded any "wait and see if they turn up" attitude.

BTW, my BF is a police officer in the same county where the traffic cameras caught the license plate. He said that "plate recognition" is becoming more common, and is used to help police track stolen cars and POIs -- although he didn't know that it was being used here until today's news story. :waitasec:
 
I wonder how much has been taken out of her bank account? I just get a feeling he got money too.

This poor woman, 81 yo, frail, and drives an older Mercedes...looks like he thought she had some money, going to the casino and all. He is a true predator preying on the elderly. His history of violence is of great concern. moo
 
Two possibilities.

They/he may be at Pearl River Resort Casinos in Choctaw. Or they/he may be at any of the many casinos on the coast.

With Pearl being east of I-55, and with him heading east, he's either in the eastern part of the state (Meridian) or the southern part of the state. From Pearl, he could be in Hattiesburg, Meridian, or Biloxi, or, like you said, mswriter, Alabama.

Then there's Louisiana...New Orleans is only a hop, skip, jump from Biloxi.

I really really doubt that he's still with her. If he left Vicksburg with her, then the roads between Vicksburg and Jackson are so rural.... she could be anywhere. And Vicksburg is on the Mississippi River, too. Not good for her.

She is such a remarkable looking woman that, if she's with him, someone will see her.
