Alissa has a scar on her chin and pierced ears.
Alissa was last seen at home in Phoenix, Arizona on May 17, 2001. Her stepfather says he took her out of school early, they went to lunch, and then came home after an argument. He left about 1:00 pm to run errands. When he returned at about 5:00 pm, Alissa was gone. There was a note saying she was running away to California. He said she called him a week later from California but hung up.
Authorities initially treated Alissa as a runaway, thinking she was in California or still in the Phoenix area. Foul play is now suspected. She left a substantial sum of money, her cell phone, and her personal belongings at home when she disappeared.
Alissa's step-father was very strict. He had surveillance cameras set up inside the family's home, and recorded all phone calls inside the residence. He never turned over the tape from the day Alissa disappeared, and said that the recording system was not working the day she called.
In December 2008, police searched the home where Alissa lived and the home across the street. They found a large stockpile of weapons. They also found a 98-page document blaming the union for Alissa's disappearance and murder. Alissa remains missing.
