Police have positively identified human remains found in a wooded area in Edmonton's west-end are that of a young woman who was reported missing ten years ago.

Edmonton's Medical Examiner has determined through dental records that the remains are that of Jutta Bentz, who was a resident of Edmonton. Police say 27-year-old Bentz was reported missing on Aug. 30, 2000.

On Aug. 3, a passerby discovered some bones while walking near the area of 215 St. and 98 Ave. Detectives and search teams combed the wooded area and found more remains, including a skull, a jawbone and some teeth.

At the time of her disappearance, Benz left work at a Revy store located at 104 Street and 42 Avenue telling co-workers that she was not feeling well.

Her disappearance was not considered suspicious at the time, but police said her unexpected behaviour was out of character.

The cause of death remains unknown at this time.

"Homicide Section, along with Missing Persons Unit, will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance," said Det. Brian Robertson with Edmonton police. "We ask that anyone who has any information surrounding her disappearance to call police. This is still an ongoing investigation."

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Bentz is asked to call police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
