    MI - Carlee Morse, 16, Westland, 19 Aug 2010 *J. Yoshikawa guilty*

The Westland police are asking for the public's help in locating a teenage girl who has been missing for more than a month.

Friends and family members of Carlee Jade Morse, 16, said she stepped out of her apartment building on Aug. 19 and has not been seen or heard from since.

Police said that at this time, there is no evidence of foul play and the teen does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
Morse may be in the Livonia, Canton or Garden City area, police said.

The teen is described as white, 5 feet tall, weighs 90 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She has a scar on her left side and a burn mark on her right ankle.

Vigil set for missing Westland teen

    [snip]

The vigil for Carlee will be held at 6:30 p.m. in front of a Garden City home at 28419 Maplewood. Organizers, including Carlee's mother, Lori Morse, expect at least 50 people to participate, but hope more will join them to pray for Carlee's safe return.

Carlee stepped outside her apartment building, near the corner of Warren and Venoy, on Aug. 20 just after midnight with her mother's permission, a 10-minute time limit and no shoes, Morse said.

    [snip]

Morse said she tried in vain during those early hours and days to convince police that her daughter is not a runaway.

"By the third week, the officer said to me, 'This is strange — a typical runaway would have made contact before this amount of time,'" Morse said.

Morse said she would prefer to believe that Carlee ran away and might contact her family. "But I don't believe that for a minute," she said. "My daughter would have already contacted us."

Unhappy Two men arrested in connection with death of missing Westland teen

Westland Police are working with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to complete an investigation into what now appears to be the murder of a 16-year-old Westland teen reported missing by her mother in August.

Two men - a 19-year-old from Westland and a 22-year-old from Taylor, have confessed to Killing Carlee Jade Morse on Aug. 19, the same day she turned up missing from her family’s WEstland apartment.

“We believe she was probably killed that day and likely within an hour of her going missing,” said Westland Police Chief Alan Ramsden. “We have yet to locate her remains and are actively working on that.”

    Tip led to arrests

“We are now treating this as, instead of a missing person, as a homicide investigation,” Ramsden said.

Ramsden said the teen’s body has not been recovered and they are still actively developing evidence in the case. Officials have presented information to the Wayne County Prosecutors Office for review.

I'm sending my thoughts out to Carlee's family and friends. I am glad to know she hasn't spent the last 4 months suffering somewhere, and I do hope her body is found soon and brought home.
Did this happen in a rough area of town? To have gone outside to make a phone call and to just up and vanish? I am so sad for her family.

Ex-stepfather of Carlee Morse, missing since August, says Westland police handling 'a mess'
Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News

This is a text-only version of a blog that has a bunch of media links in it:
    http://www.dreamindemon.com/forums/a...p/t-41873.html

It's where I found these articles:
    http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/region/...g-since-august
Quote: Investigators tell Action News the three were acquaintances, and it looks like the crime had something to do with money.

    http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/26101177/detail.html
Quote: Police believe the two men who confessed to killing her were people she considered friends.
Quote: The investigation into a group of Morse's friends connected to the two killers also continues, police said. The men will be charged soon.

It sounds like even if the cops had believed her mother and looked for her right away, she was already dead. But maybe they could have found her killers sooner. My thoughts are with Carlee's family tonight.

    Westland police request murder charge

Westland — Police asked for charges against two men who allegedly confessed to killing a 16-year-old girl missing since August, but Wayne County's prosecutor didn't immediately issue warrants.

"There is not going to be a charging decision made today," Assistant Prosecutor Mark Bernardi said Monday about two unidentified men held since Thursday by Westland Police. "A warrant request has been submitted to our office and that request is currently under review."

What does it take for a case to gain local/regional, and even national attention? Why do some cases attract public interest, while others slip through the cracks? Seems like living in small towns is a plus, because there are so few cases like this that they stand out and get the whole community involved. When it happens in a big city, oh well, one more? Just makes me sad that this girl was taken away so quickly. Or is it that there are just so many cases now, they can't all be addressed because it is too much?

Carlee does have a facebook page for finding her, if anyone hasn't seen it.

My heart goes out to her family.

IDK, why some get more than others - unless it's because family and/or friends of family reach out to the press & keep pushing the story.

I feel so badly for her mom -- she told LE her daughter wasn't a runaway & LE apparently didn't believe her...this isn't the first time we've heard of this happening & it's not a good outcome.

I'll look again for more info like a F&F Facebook.
What we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But if that drop was not in the ocean,
I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.
