In June, a woman jogging in the bog area on Santa Monica Drive was attacked from behind and hit over the head with an unknown object. She was able to run and get help.

A similar attack occurred in May when an 18-year-old woman walking on a pathway was also hit on the head. She struggled with her attacker but was able to get away.

My prayers go out to Laura's friends and family. What a beautiful smile.
 
A young man (K.D.) who was a close friend of the victim, is the son of a former roommate of mine. I havent been able to get in touch with his mom yet but hope to speak with her in the next couple of days. From what I gather she was well liked, had friends, not someone you might typically consider the target of a group attack.

I checked Facebook and was blown away by the horrific, vulgar, and twisted statements and photos being posted on her support pages. Probably some of the most repulsive I have ever seen.

This part bothers me somewhat. Teenage girls don't typically leave one behind to trail the group. I find it very odd that they didn't wait till she caught up.
 
This group was attacked with mace a week ago in Delsun Park not too far from where her body was found. He went on to say that in May and June there were two other reports of woman who were hit on the back of the head but they got away. Laura was found with trauma to the back of her head.

Also the reporter confirmed two other women on separate occasions, one in May and one in June where attacked and hit in the back of the head but they managed to get away.

I thought about this this am while walking and realizes that to take a text message or look at my emails while walking my dog, I had to stop bc I couldn't see where I was walking. If I had to reply to someone ( as most teens do) then you would be held back posibly longer. It could have been something as simple as that, you can fall behind a crowd. However, what is puzzling is that after 5 minutes of her not turning up with the group they would have missed her? It was not reported that a scream was heard and if she was hit/injured in the back of the head, she was likely taken by surprise. MOO
 
If there's a description of a guy seen leaving the park, talking on his phone, is there any possibility that Laura recognized him and stopped to talk while her friends walked on? Maybe they didn't actually see him but she did.

I don't know BC but I remember that there was an oddly "staged" dead body found at a park there late last year. I think we have a thread. The body was found under a piece of artwork.

IIRC, those remains were male.

I agree with a PP who felt it was odd that the victim lagged behind while her friends went on ahead. Perhaps she was texting, stopped to tie a shoe, or she might have had to relieve herself but there were no bathroom facilities nearby. I lived in that area during my early uni days. Even during daylight hours, I dont know too many teenage girls who would be all that comfy traveling through the wooded areas alone, - especially at this time of year when animal predators are not uncommon. I am surprised that not one of the other teens she was traveling with would stay with her.

The area the teens were reportedly walking through is not all that far from a local high school. It would be interesting to know if there were any weekend activities happening at the school. If there were event registration and attendance logs, it might narrow down who could have been in the vicinity at the time.

There are reports that she was beaten with a bat. If I was in the park at that time of day and I witnessed a male (just saying based on statistical probabilities) walking, baseball bat in hand, but no glove, that is something I would probably make a mental note of.

North Delta is becoming as bad as Surrey in some ways.

Wendy Ladner Beaudry, a mother of two and community volunteer was murdered in a different Vancouver Park in 2009. Her killer remains at large. She is believed to have been attacked during a morning run. Her body was discovered not far from a popular, heavily used trail.
 
Yes, the "staged" body was that of a male. I found our very short thread. I started that thread as I was just becoming aware of the possibility of satanic ritual killings as related to certain dates. I'm still suspicious that that's what went on with that death.

Probably not connected to poor Laura, however.

A Facebook page set up as a memorial to a teen beaten to death in a suburban Vancouver park has been riddled with insensitive and obscene comments and pictures.

Many of those who have joined the page to write condolences and express support for Laura Szendrei's family and friends have also noted their revulsion for the postings by people police say don't know the 15-year-old.

Delta Police Sgt. Sharlene Brooks said Monday officers are disgusted by the notes and pictures.

"There's some pretty disturbed individuals out there that would take advantage of this and try and bring more grief to this family and her friends," Brooks said Monday.

What a beautiful girl! This was not a crime of passion or anger, but a senseless, brutal murder. I feel for her family, bless them. I can't imagine the anger that those who knew her must feel. I hope they find who is responsible quickly! TWA sweet girl!

I am still trying to wrap my head around the logistics of this. 15 seconds away in a wooded area is not as far as it would be on a sidewalk (thinking travel time in uneven terrain). If the time estimates are correct, the group she was with may have been just meters away.

Police are not discounting a possible relationship between an incident during which the victim and some friends were maced (iirc a week ago ?).
So while it may not have been one of her own circle, it could have been a person or persons linked to the group who reportedly planned the mace incident.

Common sense says the perp is someone who was comfortable in the area, in particular with the trails. It sounds like the park was a thru route
that connects to an area adjacent to a sports field.

Dunno. Kids like to talk and they do so without a lot of discretion. I have a feeling this one will crack sooner rather than later.
