    OR - Daniel Carter, 36, Bend, 24 Sept 2010

"Carter mentioned a drive up the McKenzie Highway and possibly going to Eugene, Gregory said, adding that “Carter has not been seen or heard from since and did not show up for work Monday.”

“Carter did not pack for an overnight stay,” the lieutenant said, and “has medical conditions which pose a safety concern as well.”

“Family, employers and friends have been contacted, and all indications are that this is completely out of character, for Carter to be gone without making contact with family and his employer,” Gregory said." <snipped>

I hope he is alright. MANY people have made wrong turns in the mountain there and get lost or stranded. I hope he has access to food and water.

It certainly does seem like he has a regular routine and does not vary from it much at all.
Last Fri. evening, weather in Bend to Eugene area was:
not bad at all. It was around 66 degrees at 6:30pm.

Most of the news articles have the same information.

I am thinking about if he chose to drive the McKenzie Hwy to look at fall colors and maybe go to Eugene, why did he need $400.00?

    Did he go to casinos?
There are several not too far away.
Did he have friends in Eugene?
What about his cell phone and bank accounts?
Do any security cameras show him leaving Bend?
Was he known to stop at convenience stores for a soda
    or chips or a snack?
Would he have asked someone to come along for the
    scenic fall color drive?
It seems like something you usually want to share with others.

If he did have a car accident or fell ill and the car left the
roadway, there are many places it would not be seen for
    a long time.

Hoping he is found safe and sound.

$400 is not alot of money. could easily have been money for gas, a meal and maybe a night at a motel if he was going to be out late.

    here is an article.

    this sentence sounds ominous:

Friends say he was struggling with some health news and bills, but they don't believe he would just leave.

Two Weeks Later, Bend Man Still Missing
Police Investigate; Friends Try to Stay Positive
    8 Oct 2010

When 36-year-old Daniel Carter left work in Bend two weeks ago, he told his friends he wanted to drive over the McKenzie Pass to look at the fall colors.

He has not been seen or heard from since.

    [snip]

"For instance," the detective added, "we know he has medical conditions, and we know he does not have his medicine with him, which poses a risk to his safety.

"Police say Carter withdrew $500 from the ATM before the weekend, which was unusual for him to do.

Kindel also said there have been no cell phone "pings" since he was reported missing.

It seems strange to wipe your vehicle for prints and remove the vehicle number before committing suicide. Did he want his family to suffer more or less by making it harder for him to be found?

He probably figured they wouldn't care either way. Or that he didn't deserve to be identified. Or maybe he was ashamed. Sad, sad story, no matter what his reasoning.
