first thing that comes to mind would be the contractors who were doing the renovations especially if they used day laborers to do the work. these types of workers often have no documents, all paid in cash and employers don't often know who they really are.
just my 2 cents at this early point.

A locked door at hank's place bar and an empty parking lot the scene at the last place Karen Jenkins was seen.
She's been missing since Sunday and her car was found in the lot.
A man that lives in the area tells KMTV Action 3 News he saw Jenkins talking with a man he had never seen before.

She was last seen Sunday. Her car parked outside the bar she owns, Hank's Place. Family members tell KMTV Action 3 News that nothing is missing from the bar that's being remodeled.
Jenkins also never picked up money from the barber shop she owns, and she never turned on the business' alarm.
Jenkins had planned to re-open the bar in the next few days. It has been closed for months after this summer's death of the previous bar owner, Hank Stevens, according to a family friend.
Jenkins' car was found in the bar's parking lot, and the back door to the bar was open.

In reading this news articles, it seems that Karen liked to do maintenance work herself. She had called her brother that morning to ask about a plumbing problem.
But it does seem something happened after she arrived at the bar that morning.
One witness says he saw her talking to a man.
The back door was open.
The alarm was not set.
I keep thinking, did the bar or the building itself have security cameras?
Did the adjoining businesses have security cameras?
This woman is well traveled and seems able to take care of herself.
And if abducted, has the skills to communicate well with people, but
if abducted, none of that may matter, if the intent is to do harm.
Hoping for the best outcome.

She had her doctorate in conflict analysis and resolution, which I think would be helpful in all areas of communication. It would seem that even if she met an intruder, she might be able to use her skills to reason with him.
Perhaps LE has some clues that might be helpful, including the description of the witness who saw her talking to a man that day. It would be nice to have a positive outcome in this case.

About 30 people canvassed a five-block radius, handing out flyers with Jenkins’ picture in hopes of sparking someone's memory.
Jenkins’ sister Cynthia can only cry now, saying Jenkins was close with family and they talked every day. “When she did not show up to pick her brother up to work on some property, that was the first clue and then she did not show up to teach her class at Metro, which is really unusual."
The group will continue the search on Friday.

Lt. Trevor O'Brien, head of the police department's child victims/sexual assault unit, was at the scene to thank the volunteers and go over any information they had.
O'Brien said the canvassing efforts turned up “several different directions to follow up on.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-444-5838.
Just posting a little bit more from that news article...
So, there are some leads... and what is it with the sexual assault unit head? I guess that could be a logical conclusion.

So sad. She had given her life to teaching... was obviously very accomplished. I hate this for her family, and I hope LE will be very proactive in finding who did this.
