Diane Thomas Scott – The Charley Project

Last updated February 17, 2021; date of disappearance corrected, details of disappearance updated.

  • Missing Since: 05/05/2001
Details of Disappearance
Scott was last seen in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on the morning of May 5, 2001, when she dropped one of her children off at school. She didn't come to pick up the child that afternoon and has never been heard from again. She was not reported missing until May 24.

She was a noted civic figure in the area at the time of her disappearance, and lived in the 2600 block of Jefferson Street. When investigators checked her house, they found her blue Pontiac Sunfire parked there and her pocketbook, dentures and wallet inside her home.

Scott was happy with her life when she disappeared and her family doesn't believe she would have left on her own. She was a devoted and active member of the Bethuel Temple Church, she had just purchased a new car and she had enrolled in cosmetology school. Both of her parents died within a two-month period when she was six years old, and her aunt and uncle raised her after that. She has one sister.

Authorities believe Scott was the victim of a homicide. They questioned her estranged husband several times. He stated he wasn't with Scott on the day she disappeared, and he hasn't been named as a suspect in her case, but he is considered a person of interest. There was reportedly a history of violence in their relationship. A large tub disappeared from Scott's house at around the same time she did; it would have been large enough to conceal a woman of Scott's size.

Scott's disappearance remains unsolved.

Can't open the link above but I worked around it.

Diane Thomas Scott has not been seen in 20 years and her family is asking for help to give them closure.

Meanwhile, law enforcement is also still searching for answers.

"We've come to the firm conclusion that she is the victim of murder. We're never going to let it go," Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo said.

She was 4 feet, 8 inches tall, and fierce.

Former lead investigator Victor Rivera said the case was suspicious from the start.

"Some neighbors heard her on the phone arguing with somebody," he said.

When Scott didn't show up to pick up her daughter from school, her best friend, Sonya Palmer, knew something wasn't right. Palmer went right to Scott's home on Jefferson Street in Harrisburg.

"The white sweater was on the floor, and her slippers were kind of askew in the living room. The TV was on. Her purse, her keys, everything was there," Palmer said.

"This was not a person who left that home voluntarily," Rivera said.

Investigators say they have a person of interest in this case. The person has never been charged.

"The comments, statements that were made throughout the course of the investigation were completely out of place for a person who lost a loved one," Rivera said.

Investigators said they are suspicious of a missing cooler from the home of the person of interest.

"It's large enough that you could fit someone in it if they were small, and this was a very small woman,"
Chardo said. <earlier info is that there was a large tub missing from Diane's house. Is it and a tub and a cooler or is it a cooler instead of a tub?>

Chardo said he believes the perpetrator got lucky and deposited Scott's remains in such a way that she will never be found.

Investigators want to close the case that's taunted them for years.

"We think we know what happened," Chardo said.

What a sad story.

Were their any signs or sightings she made it back to her house or was forced back to her house? I guess the following means she was there after bringing her daughter to school.

When investigators checked her house, they found her blue Pontiac Sunfire parked there and her pocketbook, dentures and wallet inside her home. "Some neighbors heard her on the phone arguing with somebody," he said.

I thought she had more children, besides the daughter. Where was/were the other child(ren) btw? Did she use her car traveling to the school or was it on walking distance?

Did somebody visit her there/forced them into the house?

"Some neighbors heard her on the phone arguing with somebody," he said.

Authorities believe Scott was the victim of a homicide. They questioned her estranged husband several times. He stated he wasn't with Scott on the day she disappeared, and he hasn't been named as a suspect in her case, but he is considered a person of interest. There was reportedly a history of violence in their relationship.

One nagging clue was a large-sized tub missing from Diane’s residence.

I still wonder if this is relevant and how big exactly this tub was. Was it f.i. a tub to put dirty laundry in, did it have a lid? According to Charlie P. it was large enough to carry a woman of her size. Other sources say it was a cooler. It always has a lid.
