GA - Teacher Surrenders Cert. so he can get a new one in 3 yrs
Alan Keith Kirkland, the North Hall High School band teacher who resigned last spring after administrators discovered his relationship with a student, surrendered his teaching certificate this month.
He will be able to petition for the right to reapply for teaching certification after three years.
The nature of the relationship was not defined other than Kirkland and the girl had exchanged thousands of phone texts.
Ummm...WTH??? So this 37yo man had an "inappropriate relationship" with a student, but in three years we think he'll have outgrown it?
Seriously, what is wrong with people?

Oh, it gets better:
His ex-wife Ashley Kirkland said by phone that she discovered the texts messages last January and initiated divorce proceedings. It was not the first time she found he had been texting another female, she said. When she got a call from the schools in May, she told them Kirkland sent more than 10,000 text messages to the student starting as early as last August. She did not know the content of the messages.

Just to clarify, I did not "rat him out." He was reported (as required by law) by a fellow teacher in Hall County. (see AJC article) Anything that was reported in the news, and I was quoted on, was merely confirmed by me. This was not brought to media attention by me. The media got hold of the "public record" evidence, reports from Hall County, and the PSC open records acts.
