Unidentified White Male

The victim was discovered on October 12, 2002 in Saguache, Colorado

Vital Statistics

Estimated age: 30-40 years old
Approximate Height and Weight: 6'5"; 235-240 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Possibly brown hair. No identifying marks, tattoos or broken bones were detected.
Clothing: A Harley Davidson T-shirt and black briefs. Fort Washington, Maryland was printed on the back of the T-shirt.
Dentals: The man had no teeth and no dentures were found at the scene.
Fingerprints: Available

Case History:

The victim was located lying in a ravine in the Rio Grande Forest, just off a dirt road about 14 miles west of Saguache.
The body was partly frozen when found October 12, 2002 and it has not been determined how long it may have lain in the ditch.
The man was wrapped in black plastic secured with duct tape and had been wrapped in a handmade, antique quilt.
An autopsy attributed the cause of death to two gunshot wounds to the head, fired at close range.

Authorities over the years have speculated that because the man was found not long after the last Hells Angels rally was held in Gunnison, he could have ridden to the rally from out of state and met with foul play in that time frame. But until an identification is made, it will be hard to determine whether there is any real connection to the rally.

Interesting UID case, not too many options to choose from. Found Craig Allen Reed to be the closest possibility based on the height, weight, and age of the UID. No indication however if Craig Reed had dentures and/or no teeth. Thoughts?

His chin sure looks right, and I'd say the facial shape is close enough.

Everything else (aside from dentals) looks good. The physical characteristics section is quite thin. So the fact that it doesn't mention dentures or no teeth doesn't mean that's not the case.

Overall, looks good to me. I think I looked at this case once, but 'll take a look again to see what I can find.

ETA: Nothing else came up on my screen that looked very promising.

Thanks Carl. I went back until Oct. 2001 on the Charley site and noone else listed was remotely close to 6'5" other then Craig. I found a few others who resemble the drawing, but no mention of height and weight for either man...I'm going to look into them a little more (and post if anything adds up).

I found six others from 1999 to 2002 who meet (or come close to) the age and height requirements:

Could be. Fat on face may explain lack of resemblance to recon, but nothing to sieze upon.

ok, might have found this guy.

Steven Gabbard, missing from Kentucky June 10, 2002, was 39 y.o., between 6'2"-6'4", around 200 lbs, most definitely a biker and as per the Namus profile had upper dentures. hair color is stated to be black but the picture definitely looks brown to me.

among the clothing and accessories he is listed with are:

Black Outlaws T-shirt & Leather vest and blue jeans
Black Harley boots
black wallet with Harley Davidson on it with a silver chain

https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/9476/1/

the Doe Network page for the UID mentioned a Hells Angel rally, which apparently started shortly after July 22, 2002:

http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/v...-beach-m-c-show-today-no-patches-allowed.html

that is just one month after Gabbard was last seen in KY.

I realize the weight is off a bit, and there is no mention of lower dentures, but there seems to be many things pointing his way.

Sorry for the very delayed reply webrocket. This is one thread I forgot to track...anyways....did you submit Mr Gabbard?

I did not Masnitram. can you do a side by side with the images? for some reason I either have not been able to figure that out or I just can't do it with my laptop.

the biggest negative with Gabbard is that he was listed as having upper dentures and the UID had no teeth at all.

I haven't figured out how to do a side-by-side on my laptop either...

However I did zip an email to the Namus case manager regarding Mr. Gabbard, his known associations with the Hells Angels and the time line is too good to pass up IMO.

the UID is still not in Namus and Gabbard's profile is still up. I assume you heard nothing back Masnitram?

I haven't heard anything. Might be time to resubmit Craig Reed and Mr. Gabbard....honestly though I think Gabbard is the best match out of the two of them, but it wouldn't hurt to submit both.

I still don't see the UID in Namus and Gabbard is still there. did you ever follow up Masnitram?

I have emailed the Namus case manager about this UID and Mr. Gabbard. I assume that because both profiles say "Sample submitted: Tests complete" that no DNA match has been made....but just in case

Steven Gabbard seems to be a strong possibility, but I thought I'd throw this guy out there in the event that it turns out to not be Steven.

http://www.nampn.org/cases/darrow_dale.html

What makes him a VERY long shot is he disappeared in 1990. Apparently his car was found in 1991 but I can't find any information on where it was or what the circumstances were.

But he matches the height right on (6'4" to 6'6") and is close in age (31 years old at time of disappearance, ~43 as of 2002), and I think he looks a LOT like the recon in the eyes, nose, eyebrows and ears. Rest of the face is hard to tell due to his beard. (Also clearly he had teeth in 1990 or whenever that photo was taken, but that could have changed).

In general it seems kind of weird in this UID case that they are looking specifically at the recent Hells Angels rally, but give no time frame whatsoever on when they believe the UID was killed. I'd think that for them to consider the Gunnison rally the body would have to be in a state where they could at least say he died within, I dunno, 3-6 months of whenever the rally was.

Gabbard looks to be the UID. Everything is lined up. Last seen June 10th with the event in Colorado just a little over a month away. Was his Motorcycle ever found?

It's been over a year and Gabbard hasn't shown up as a rule out on NamUs. Any updates?
