CA - Adult abuse victim severely beats Jesuit priest abuser

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101030/...xlZ2VkYWJ1c2U-

Alleged abuse victim arrested in priest's beating

"SAN JOSE, Calif. – William Lynch's life spiraled out of control in the 35 years since he alleges he and his brother were molested by a Jesuit priest: He struggled with depression, had nightmares and tried to kill himself twice.
Authorities believe that anger and pain erupted when Lynch lured the Rev. Jerold Lindner to the lobby of his Jesuit retirement home by pretending he had news of a death in the priest's family and beat him severely in front of shocked witnesses.

Lynch, 43, was arrested Friday and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for the May 10 attack..."

    and

"....the boys, who were 7 and 5 at the time, were raped in the woods and forced to have oral sex with each other while Lindner watched. Lindner has been accused of abuse by nearly a dozen people, including his own sister and nieces and nephews..."

    I just noticed something:

"...Lindner was able to drive himself to the hospital...."

    and

"...The Rev. JM, the provincial, told the AP that Lindner has recovered and resumed his work at the retirement home, where he helps care for 75 infirm priests. He is not allowed to leave the home unsupervised, he said...."

This is from the link above. Lindner was placed at the retirement home at age 56, presumably to assist with the care of elder and infirm priests. Was Rev. JM aware of his past? Were the resident priests and their families aware of his past? I sure as heck wouldn't want this monster caring for my elderly brother!! And when was the rule of required supervision on outings instituted--before or after the attack? It looks as if Lindner was able to leave unescorted to go to the hospital. It wouldn't shock me in the least to learn that he'd attacked a young child in the hospital's public restroom. He's a monster and will never change. I can only imagine how many victims he has.

Another observation. It sure doesn't appear as if LE made this attack a top priority. It took almost 6 months to arrest the guy, even with the phone records and eye witnesses? Hmmmm.

It's so nice to see the Catholic Church remain steadfast and committed to its role as providing a safe haven for pedophiles. Thank you, John McGarry, for your words that serve to remind us.

I would hope that William Lynch is able to find peace in his life somehow.

    There's justice and there's revenge.

Honestly when I read that in the paper this morning I thought "Oh how many times did I dream of kicking the lving s*it out of that old freak who raped me as a child?" I know that's wrong, but hey I'm honest.

Thankfully the creep is dead so I don't have to worry about going through with it and getting locked up like Mr. Lynch.

Nobody knows. Nobody. Well, thankfully I don't. I mean to force two brother's as children to do that? To eachother? That dude is lucky all he got was punched a few times.

I can't endorse violence. However, I wonder if the beating "helped" in any way. I fully realize that it was the young child fighting back. I get that. Does it help with the healing process? The mug shot looks to be of a "settled" man. Does that make sense?

I will hereby admit to dreaming of brake malfunctions concerning a certain teen.

Many victims of molesters have fantasized about such a scenario.

I was checking to see if there were any articles which provided more details about this case and was dumbstruck when I came to a section in the following one:

Arrest in alleged revenge beating of priest at Los Gatos retirement home

"...Lindner was removed from active ministry in Los Angeles in 1997 in response to the Lynch civil lawsuit, and was reportedly sent to the South Bay Jesuit Center in 2002.
Three years ago, Jesuit officials reportedly settled Lindner's and other abuse cases filed by 550 plaintiffs for $660 million.

An Associated Press report quoted Lindner's brother, a retired Los Angeles police officer, as saying that he last saw his brother more than two decades ago, after he walked in on his sibling molesting his 8-year-old daughter during a visit.

"The last contact I had with him personally was the day after I caught him with my daughter, and I told him he best get in his vehicle and leave," the brother was quoted as saying. "I said, 'If I go out to the truck and get my off-duty weapon out of the glove box, you're a dead man....."

Let's look at that statement carefully. Lindner was caught by his own brother, an off-duty LEO molesting a child. The father of the child stops the molestation and threatens his brother. OK, good. But then what? This was OVER two decades ago--the late 80s, possibly. A LEO is a mandated reporter. Why, in heaven's name, did the brother not report this monster? He knew he was a priest and worked with children. He's probably heard family chatter about this guy.

How many children could have been saved between the late 80s and 1997, when Lindner was removed from the "active" ministry, the year of the Lynch brothers' suit. He wasn't removed from the community or supervised, however, until 2002. And the supervision provided for him is questionable at best, IMO. So how many years does it take to stop a monster?

I have to say I'm shocked that the clock didn't stop the second the brother/cop walked in that door. If this horrid man will abuse his own niece with family in the house, he has no fear. He's the highest level of predator IMO.

I'm telling you, even when he arrived at that hospital after his assault, broken and bleeding, he was looking for victims. Let's hope he was too injured to attack.

This incident really brought the child sexual abuse case out into the light again. So many of these cases remain shrouded in darkness.

Thought it interesting that this story generated almost 600 comments on Yahoo News:

Phewie. That one poster commenting says the Satanists told the excorsists this. Then the same person comments the EX Satanists said these Priest's are Satanists. Say what?

Although the same person also commented "This homosexual stuff". Can I say it again? This has nada to do with homosexuality. In this creepers case it has to do with being a perverted pedophile for crying in a bucket.

I know people say violence begets violence and all that. However, the dude could have killed the freakazoid. No, he allegedly punched him some. A broken patella would have ensured he'd need crutches if he was going to go after anymore kids.

I hope this guy gets off easy. He suffered greatly. His brother suffered. We're all suffering just knowing this exists.

I am confused by the brother's comments. Really confused. What he is saying does not make it so if he did not report it. How do we know it was not the other way around?

I'm confused by your question, Believe. Can you explain which comment you are referring to? Did I miss something?

And concentric and Filly--At least we know more about Viagra, "Obamacare", and the "fact" that America is going to hell in a handbasket because of the "gay agenda" from reading the 600 comments. Jeesh. I LOATHE the fact that I am often driven to read the comments looking for a tiny crumb actually related to the issue at hand. I feel so darn "dirty" after reading all the vitriol out there. Can't everybody be a little nicer?

I was raised Catholic- by the third grade, I knew the "church" was a bastion of corruption and manipulation. I consider myself a Christian and always will-- yet I will never forgive the catholic (yeah, that's a LITTLE "c"!!) church for ruining my religious life for years.

I agree with you. I think that it is as disgusting as it gets when the leaders of a church cover up crimes and the predator is not put into prison for the rest of his life but instead is just moved around to different churches where he just finds more children to rape. Why is the Catholic church allowed to just keep paying off the victims and allowed to cover for sexual predators?
