This poor kid. :(

An Ohio teen who came home to find the bodies of three family members bludgeoned to death, initially thought it was a Halloween prank.

16-year-old Devon Griffin arrived at his home just east of Toledo on Sunday afternoon to the bloody discovery.

Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton said 53-year-old William Liske, his 46-year-old wife Susan Liske and her 23-year-old son Derek Griffin were all found murdered.

The suspect has a history of mental illness (schizophrenia), and was living in a group home. He had threatened the family before.

In a strange twist, the elder Liske's sister died in a garage fire early Monday morning. The cause is still unknown, though it is not thought to be related to the murders.

Was the fire at the same house as the murders?

No, the fire broke out in a detached garage at the sister's home in Oregon, OH.
Not sure how far away this is from the murder scene.

If you drive like I do it's only about 20mins. apart. I'm praying for the framily.
So sad.......

How devastating!! Four losses in 24 hours. I feel so awful for the boy who found them and the family.

I don't understand about the garage fire part. Just about every garage has two doors - the car entrance and the door that either goes into the house or outside, if it's detached. Often windows, too. And it's typically one big room. How can one get trapped if a fire breaks out?

Liske's father, 53-year-old William Liske Sr., stepmother, 46-year-old Sue Liske and stepbrother, 23-year-old Derek Griffin, were found dead in their Ottawa County home along Route 2 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities are awaiting autopsy results on the cause of death of the three victims, but they have come to some preliminary conclusions.

"There's trauma to all three in the head areas and we're not sure what caused the trauma," said Ottawa County Sheriff's Department Deputy George Byington.

He says they do believe gunfire was involved, but that investigators have not ruled anything out at this point.

...police say the garage had lawn equipment inside, including cans of gasoline.

"I just seen fire trucks and then the whole house was on fire, the whole garage," said witness Alex Danford. "Just flames shooting pretty high in the air and then the woods started catching on fire."

Dunmeyer's family says she lived in the home and would often smoke inside the garage.

From April 2015:

Liske, then 25, murdered his father, William Liske, 53, stepmother Susan Liske, 46, and stepbrother Derek Griffin, 23, as they slept in their Benton Township home on Oct. 31, 2010.

He bludgeoned Griffin with both sides of a claw hammer and shot his father five times with a .22-caliber gun. He shot Susan three times. A medical examination revealed she had been raped...

Liske avoided the death penalty when he accepted an agreement to plead guilty. He was sentenced in 2011 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
