Amber Alert Issued for 4 Year Old New Jersey Boy

The Mount Laurel, NJ police issued the Amber Alert on Monday September 29 after his mother was killed and the boy was abducted.

Was abducted in Mount Laurel, NJ on Monday September 29. He is 4 yrs. white male with brown hair, brown eyes, last seen wearing a red sweat suit.

Police are looking for Lester Barney Jr, 59 yrs. white male driving a 1993 gray 4 door Mercedes Benz NJ plates LRH65D.

According to police he killed the boy's mother and is considered armed and dangerous.

A 60-year-old New Jersey man accused of puncturing his wife' s throat with a knife and leaving her to bleed to death in the back of her car testified Tuesday that the couple were struggling for the weapon when it accidentally cut her throat.

"The knife went right into her throat," Lester Stuart Barney said. "It was an accident. There was pulsing blood everywhere."

Barney is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 26-year-old wife, Alla Barney, whom he met through an online dating site that pairs Eastern Europe women with American men. If convicted, Barney faces life in prison.

After prosecutors rested their case Tuesday, the defendant took the stand and explained that he did not intend to kill the woman he had fallen in love with when he visited the Ukraine in December 1998. He was only seeking visitation with his 4-year-old son on Sept. 29, 2003, when the fatal exchange occurred outside the boy's day care .

Defendant was indicted for the purposeful or knowing murder of his wife, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1), (2); second degree interference with his wife's custody of their child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-4a(4); and contempt of a domestic violence restraining order, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-9b.

The trial court severed the contempt charge before trial and amended the interference with custody charge to the third-degree offense during trial. Following a seven-day trial, a jury found defendant guilty of both purposeful or knowing murder and interference with custody.

The trial court sentenced defendant to life imprisonment, with the 85% period of parole ineligibility mandated by the No Early Release Act (NERA), N.J.S.A. 2C:43-7.2,1 and a consecutive four-year term for interference with custody. The court dismissed the contempt charge.
