OK OK - Julie Mitchell, 34, Oklahoma City, 2 Nov 2010

What a horrible shame, another young woman slaughtered.Thankfully the baby was unhurt.

Oh no!

Stepson?

That was my first thought. I will feel bad if he had nothing to do with it, but the fact that he called it in and it was originally stated to be an attempted suicide..... My hinky meter went off. Obviously there was something present to make LE believe it was homicide if the suicide theory had already been "planted" during the 911 call.

Dead mom's stepson said family appreciates social media messages

The stepson of a woman found dead in a complicated homicide case says his family is terrified, but constant messages from friends and the public continue to help them hold together.

Julie Mitchell's 30-year-old stepson said this morning he has received a message of condolence about every five minutes for the past 36 hours. He said his brother, another one of Julie Mitchell's stepsons, found her body in the house late Tuesday. Family members are "out of sorts," and need messages from people even when family members can't provide any answers, he said.

"Keep the messages coming," he said. "We really appreciate it."

So I guess I have a few questions. Is her daughter also the daughter of her husband? If so, then why is she "with a family member" instead of her father? Also, why did the stepson say it was a suicide?

Oklahoma City victim's family is terrified
---
Police have learned Teddy Mitchell is a bookie, someone who illegally collects bets on sporting events, authorities told The Oklahoman. It was unclear Thursday if that activity had anything to do with her death.
---
Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said detectives will not comment about anything found inside the house. He said he is not aware of anything reported stolen.
---
A 911 tape made to police when Julie Mitchell's body was found by her stepson will not be released because it is evidence, Knight said.

This could be nothing...The husband has 4 children listed on his FB page. I've done some digging and unless one of his kids goes by another name, he left one off. The particular son he left off doesn't have Julie Mitchell on her friends list and all of the other family members that I can clearly identify, do.

A lawyer for the husband of Julie Mitchell said Thursday that Teddy Mitchel, 56, was away in Arizona when his wife was killed inside the couple's home Tuesday night.

Teddy Mitchell's lawyer said Mitchell had to charter a plane in Arizona to get home as quickly as possible once he discovered what had happened at his home.

How can one mistake "multiple blunt force trauma to the head" as a suicide?

If there was a lot of damage and blood, maybe he thought she shot herself?

Of course, my hinky meter is dinging like crazy......

Or perhaps she was lying in bed and her injuries could not be seen - under the covers, say; stepson called her name; called her name again; and getting no response, dialed 911 and said the first thing that came to mind.

Or not, or not.

Her husband being alleged to be a bookie sends alarm bells on the hink-o-meter ringing too.

"The state medical examiner says a mother who was found dead in her home Tuesday suffered "multiple blunt force trauma to the head."

Blunt force trauma to the head is an 'intimate' way to murder someone. It will be interesting to see if the person who did this, knew her and what the motive might have been. I am guessing robbery and / or sexual assault. Also law enforcement found their toddler in the home. If the child was walking around the home, the crime scene could be tainted. Vital physical evidence could have been compromised. The thought of that baby being there when this crime occurred and then being there alone makes me so nauseous. Poor thing.

a new twist:
Anonymous letter describes woman's murder w/video

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The KFOR newsroom was drawn closer to the Metro's latest homicide Friday when we got an anonymous letter detailing the brutal crime. Julie Mitchell, 34, was found dead inside her home along Northwest 150th near Western, Tuesday night. The letter began: "I am writing this letter to help. Hopefully it will solve the murder for Julie Mitchell." It went into great detail alleging the state of Mitchell's family life, how her murder was planned and the instructions to cover up her death.

ETA

News9 has the best written account thus far of the letter found today:

The chief also hinted that the content of the anonymous letters may be linked to his work.

"It's common knowledge that he was involved in book-making and things like that so the type of people he's associated with and dealt in many cases don't want to be known," said Chief Citty. "It makes sense in a case like this where you do have a lot of contacts and people who are involved in illegal activity who don't want to be known to be involved in illegal activity."

But Chief Citty stressed at this point no one, including Mitchell's husband, is a suspect.

It does not appear that Mrs. Mitchell was a victim of sexual assault.

The manner of death was homicide, Ballard said.
There was no indication of sexual assault, authorities said.
